Job Summary
The Estimation Engineer is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, tenders, and proposals for ship repair and maintenance projects. The role involves reviewing technical specifications, coordinating with production and procurement teams, and ensuring competitive and profitable pricing.
Key Responsibilities
- Review RFQs (Request for Quotation), technical specifications, and client requirements for ship repair projects.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates covering:
- Dry docking
- Steel renewal
- Piping works
- Mechanical repairs
- Electrical & instrumentation works
- Analyze drawings, BOQs, and scope of work to determine material, labor, and subcontracting costs.
- Liaise with procurement for supplier quotations and pricing.
- Coordinate with production, planning, and workshop teams for realistic execution costs and timelines.
- Prepare and submit techno-commercial proposals within deadlines.
- Conduct site visits / vessel inspections when required for accurate estimation.
- Evaluate risks and include contingency factors in estimates.
- Maintain cost database for materials, labor rates, and past projects.
- Participate in client meetings, negotiations, and clarifications.
- Support project team during project execution with cost tracking and variation estimates.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical / Marine Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 3–7 years of experience in estimation within ship repair / shipyard industry.
- Strong knowledge of ship repair processes, dry docking, and marine systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and estimation tools/software.
- Good understanding of costing, budgeting, and commercial terms.

Preferred Experience
- Experience working in shipyards or marine engineering companies.
- Familiarity with classification society standards (ABS, DNV, Lloyd’s, etc.).
- Knowledge of UAE/GCC market pricing and vendors.

- Willingness to attend vessel inspections and site visits.
