Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA)

About the Role

  • Assist the dentist chairside during exams, restorative procedures, extractions, and other treatments
  • Prepare treatment rooms, instruments, and materials in advance of each patient appointment
  • Perform EFDA procedures as permitted by state law and delegated by the supervising dentist, including but not limited to: placing and finishing restorations, taking impressions and leading the process to seat crowns
  • Take and process dental radiographs (X-rays) accurately and efficiently
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in the practice management system
  • Provide post-operative instructions and follow up with patients as directed

Clinical Operations & Efficiency

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked operatory at all times
  • Communicate proactively with the tream to flag delays, patient concerns, or schedule changes
  • Support the overall flow of the practice by staying flexible and stepping in where needed
  • Ensure sterilization and infection control protocols are followed without exception

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with dentists, hygienists, and front office staff to deliver a seamless experience for every patient
  • Communicate clearly and in real time — clinical notes, schedule updates, patient flags
  • Bring a positive, team-first attitude and a willingness to pitch in wherever the team needs you
  • Participate in morning huddles, team meetings, and practice improvement conversations
  • Contribute to a culture of learning, consistency, and high standards

What You Bring

  • Active Expanded Function Dental Assistant certificate and CPR/BLS certification
  • 1+ years of EFDA experience in a clinical dental setting preferred
  • Genuine warmth and a natural ability to make patients feel comfortable and cared for
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to stay organized under pressure
  • Reliable, punctual, and committed to showing up as a full contributor every day
  • Clear communicator with a collaborative, solutions-oriented mindset
