Fabrication Supervisor

DEPARTMENT: Production

REPORTS TO: Production Manager

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt or Exempt (based on structure)

Position Summary

The Fabrication Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily fabrication floor operations to ensure safety, quality, efficiency, and on-time completion of work. This role directly supervises fabrication employees, coordinates workflow, monitors performance, and ensures adherence to company procedures and lean principles.

This position specifically oversees the fabrication of tanks and related equipment, including welding, cutting, forming, fitting, and assembly. The Fabrication Supervisor serves as the primary link between fabrication staff and the Production Manager and collaborates cross-functionally to meet production goals.

Key Responsibilities

Daily Operations

  • Supervise and coordinate day-to-day fabrication activities.
  • Ensure production schedules are executed according to plan and deadlines.
  • Monitor workflow, staffing, and material availability.
  • Identify and resolve production issues in real time.
  • Escalate major operational concerns to the Production Manager.
  • Coordinate and schedule fabrication projects to meet production targets.
  • Track project progress, allocate resources, and adjust plans as needed.

Team Leadership

  • Supervise, coach, and develop fabrication employees.
  • Enforce company policies, safety rules, and quality standards.
  • Conduct performance conversations, employee evaluations, and recommend corrective action when needed.
  • Assist in hiring, onboarding, and training new employees.
  • Promote accountability and a positive team culture.

Fabrication Oversight

  • Oversee fabrication processes including welding, cutting, forming, fitting, and assembly of tanks and related equipment.
  • Maintain high standards of quality craftsmanship and structural integrity.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve fabrication issues as they arise.
  • Ensure compliance with fabrication specifications, blueprints, and work instructions.
  • Ensure work areas remain clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.

Safety & Quality

  • Ensure compliance with all safety requirements and company policies.
  • Conduct routine safety checks and reinforce safe work practices.
  • Monitor quality standards and address defects immediately.
  • Support root cause investigations and corrective actions.

Production & Performance Tracking

  • Track daily production metrics (output, scrap, downtime, labor efficiency).
  • Assist in labor allocation and shift adjustments.
  • Utilize ERP system to confirm production reporting accuracy.
  • Report daily results and concerns to the Production Manager.
  • Maintain detailed production records and documentation.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with Engineering, Quality Control, and Procurement to ensure seamless production processes.
  • Provide input to improve product designs and fabrication processes.
  • Collaborate with procurement to monitor material needs and fabrication supply levels.

Inventory & Equipment

  • Monitor and manage inventory of fabrication materials and supplies.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and safe operation of fabrication equipment.
  • Operate heavy equipment such as forklifts and cranes as required.

Continuous Improvement

  • Support lean initiatives and waste reduction efforts.
  • Participate in process improvement activities.
  • Recommend workflow improvements to increase efficiency and productivity.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; technical or trade education preferred.
  • 3–5 years of manufacturing experience.
  • Proven experience in fabrication, welding , and metal assembly.
  • Proficiency in welding and fabrication techniques.
  • Prior supervisory or team lead experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of shop floor operations and safety practices.
  • Ability to read production schedules, drawings, and work instructions.
  • Basic computer skills; ERP experience preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to moving machinery, welding areas, heavy equipment, temperature fluctuations, and moderate noise levels. Must be able to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Regular standing and walking required; frequent use of hands to handle tools and equipment; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds. Must be able to safely operate a forklift and maintain required certifications.
