Facilities Assistant

Compensation: $16/hour

Location: This position supports all of our Milwaukee-based sites: Admin (909 East North Avenue), Riverwest Center (909 East Garfield Avenue), and Goldin Center (2320 West Burleigh Street). Independent and reliable transportation to move between the buildings is required.

Position Summary:

The Facilities Assistant Floater helps ensure that buildings, equipment, and grounds are clean, safe, and well- maintained. This position supports day-to-day facility operations, event setup, and basic maintenance tasks to keep the organization running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with daily upkeep of facilities, including cleaning, organizing, and restocking supplies.
  • Support setup and breakdown of room, furniture, and equipment for programs and events
  • Perform light maintenance tasks such as replacing bulbs, minor repairs, and painting.
  • Respond to maintenance requests and emergencies, when requested, in a timely manner.
  • Assist with grounds keeping, including outdoor upkeep and seasonal tasks.
  • Maintain storage areas and equipment in good working order
  • Work closely with Facilities Manager and other team members to ensure the efficient operation of the facility
  • Provide support to staff and visitors regarding facility needs

Safety and Compliance

  • Ensure a secure and safe environment for employees and clients.
  • Monitor facilities for safety concerns and report issues promptly

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Due to the nature of this role, which involves working at various facilities as scheduled, candidates must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and current auto insurance. Travel between sites is essential to fulfilling job responsibilities.
  • Previous experience in facilities, custodial, or maintenance work helpful but not required.
  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Physical ability to perform maintenance tasks, including lifting, climbing, and working in various environmental conditions

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, depending on the maintenance tasks
  • May be required to work evenings, weekends, or be on call for emergencies
  • Physical requirements include standing, walking, bending, lifting heavy objects, and working in confined spaces.

The work environment is an active environment with urban youth and families in a variety of settings. This requires the ability to respond quickly to changing situations and be able to move around the COA site as needed. This position also requires evening and weekend work.
