The Facility Worker position is a regular part-time position that assists in building operations, maintenance and janitorial work. This position ensures that the building, the grounds, and program areas are cleaned, maintained, collaborates with lead maintenance staff to ensure the Zanewood Recreation Center is safe, clean and orderly. Check out the the expanded. This position will be based at the newly renovated Zanewood Recreation Center, which was completed in the fall of 2025 and at the new Teen Center, called The Wood.
- General maintenance, cleaning and other related janitorial duties at the Zanewood Recreation Center.

Perform routine cleaning tasks including floor maintenance and sanitation duties including but not limited to cleaning restrooms, common spaces, sweeping, and mopping floors, vacuuming, window washing, trash pick-up and removal.

Set up program rooms as requested.

Perform light building repairs on flooring, doors, lighting, and painting.

Perform snow and ice control operations, with primary responsibility to shovel sidewalks.

Perform general landscaping maintenance: weeding, watering, and pruning.

Operates, and performs preventative maintenance and repair on equipment.

Mows or performs outdoor labor.

Performs other duties as assigned.

An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Experience in maintaining and repairing small equipment.

Desired Qualifications

Previous experience in a recreation or school setting.

Previous light maintenance and/or custodial maintenance experience for buildings and grounds/landscaping.

Operation snow removal equipment.

Fluency in Spanish, Hmong, Russian, Somali, Lao or Vietnamese language(s).

Experience working with youth and young adults from various cultural, socioeconomic, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.

Core business hours are set by departments based on operational needs. Alternative schedules can be arranged, but must comply with the City’s Alternative Work Arrangement policy.

Monday – Friday, evening hours ranging from 4pm-9pm.

Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move 10 to 50 pounds regularly/occasionally. May occasionally lift more than 50 pounds while moving chairs, event stages and other equipment.

Prolonged periods of standing, bending, sitting, stooping, kneeling, climbing.

Exposure to possibly hazardous cleaning chemicals.

Work is performed in various conditions, indoors temperature controlled 40-50 degrees and outdoor in various weather conditions.

Part Time - Limited Benefits
MN Paid Leave, Vacation, Sick, PERA Decreasing Life Insurance, and Deferred Compensation eligible. Sick and vacation are earned at a pro-rated rate. This position is NOT eligible for Medical or Dental Insurance/Benefits.
