Financial Controller

Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Financial Controller to lead our finance team and oversee all aspects of financial management within our organization. This pivotal role involves ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining regulatory compliance, managing accounting operations, and supporting strategic decision-making. Responsibilities

• Oversee the full scope of accounting functions including general ledger management, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations
• Ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards), SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act), and other regulatory requirements
• Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing processes with accuracy and timeliness
• Prepare comprehensive financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and regulatory filings
• Manage internal controls related to financial reporting and implement best practices for risk mitigation
• Conduct detailed cost accounting analysis and support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis activities
• Supervise and develop the finance team while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth
• Oversee treasury functions such as cash management, banking relationships, and investment strategies
• Ensure proper account reconciliation procedures are followed across all ledgers and accounts
• Maintain compliance with governmental regulations related to nonprofit or governmental accounting as applicable

Skills

• Extensive knowledge of accounting standards including GAAP, IFRS, SOX compliance, and regulatory reporting requirements
• Proven experience in managing accounting teams within complex organizations or nonprofits
• Strong expertise in financial software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or similar platforms; proficiency in Excel data analysis is essential
• Deep understanding of corporate accounting practices including general ledger accounting, double-entry bookkeeping, cost analysis, and account reconciliation
• Skilled in financial report writing with the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly to stakeholders at all levels
• Experience with international accounting standards and governmental or nonprofit-specific accounting practices is highly desirable
• Demonstrated ability in cash flow management, forecasting, budgeting processes, and treasury management strategies
• Knowledge of technical accounting issues such as revenue recognition, lease accounting, or complex financial instruments is advantageous
• Exceptional analytical skills combined with strong attention to detail; ability to interpret large data sets for strategic insights
• Effective leadership skills with experience managing cross-functional teams in fast-paced environments
