Financial Deputy Clerk

SUMMARY

The Licking County Common Pleas Clerk of Courts is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Financial Bookkeeper to support the financial operations of the Common Pleas Clerk’s offices. This position plays a key role in processing court-related financial transactions, maintaining accurate records, and assisting with reconciliations and reporting. The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, and comfortable working with sensitive financial information in a fast-paced, public service environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Process filing deposits, court costs, fines, bonds and other financial transactions related to Common Pleas Court cases
  • Must responsibly handle public moneys as well as secured documents
  • Prepare and issue bills, past-due notices, and accounts for referral to collections
  • Maintain accurate financial records in compliance with court and county policies
  • Assist with monthly balancing, reconciliation, and verification of accounts
  • Support the preparation of purchase orders and related documentation
  • Respond to inquiries and public records requests regarding account balances, payments, and billing by telephone, email and in person.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal controls
  • Perform other financial and clerical duties as assigned
  • Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance and punctuality. Hours are 8 am - 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday.
  • Promotes and maintains positive and effective working relationships within the Clerk’s office, the Courts, with other county offices and departments, in addition to promoting good public relationships as a representative of Licking County Government
  • Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to the essential functions of the position and all agency safety procedures
  • Remains informed of current developments and procedures pertinent to duties; may be required to attend seminars/training
  • Other duties may be assigned

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficiency with accounting software, financial systems, and Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and communication skills

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree (A.A., B.A., or B.S.) or equivalent from a two-year or four-year college or technical school required with coursework in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred; and,
  • 12 – 18 months of experience and/or training in related field (bookkeeping, accounting, or financial recordkeeping) required

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to…read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; effectively present information to customers and other employees of the organization; communicate effectively verbally and in writing

TECHNOLOGY SKILLS

Ability to…operate basic office equipment; effectively use word processing, spreadsheets and databases; communicate effectively via email; reasonably utilize state and local government websites

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to…apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions; use critical thinking to deal with problems involving various situations; reasonably prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and work through frequent interruptions and inquires

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Office setting within the Clerk of Courts offices at both the Domestic Relations and General Division Courthouses. Regular interaction with court staff, attorneys, other county departments and the public

SALARY & BENEFITS
