Job Description

Responds to emergency and non-emergency fire, rescue and medical incidents; provides support functions including vehicle and equipment maintenance; general requests for assistance; records and reporting duties; emergency medical treatment including but not limited to medical and trauma related emergencies. Plans, organizes and may direct fire/rescue and medical service functions in accordance with all applicable laws, codes, rules and regulations.

1. Works as part of an assigned crew to conduct fire suppression, rescue, special operations and emergency medical services;

2. Responds to a variety of fire related incidents including brush, vehicle and structural fires where they may perform initial scene operations, vertical and horizontal ventilation, raising and moving ladders, rescues or extrications, fire attacks, and salvage and overhaul operations.

3. Acts as a first responder to all types of emergency situations; Assists with coordination of emergency operations, including information requests, restricting access to hazardous areas, and monitoring for any unsafe situations;

4. Responds to a variety of emergency medical incidents and provides care consistent with EMT training; May be assigned primary duties as an Emergency Medical Technician for treatment and transport during emergency response;

5. Responds to all rescue related calls and assists on special operations consistent with their level of training and as determined by the department;

6. Ensures equipment and apparatus is fully prepared and functional at all times;

7. Performs general maintenance and upkeep of apparatus, equipment, fire station and surrounding grounds;

8. Performs and documents required equipment checks as assigned to ensure safety and response readiness;

9. Participates in routine and preventative maintenance of fire apparatus and facilities;

10. Participates in pre-fire planning, mapping, fire prevention and public education activities;

11. Prepares various reports and other documents in a professional and timely manner; Assists with incident forms and related paperwork for emergency responses;

12. Performs other various duties as may be assigned.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

  • High School graduate or equivalent;
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Authorized to work in the United States
  • Read, write and speak the English language
  • One year experience as an Emergency Medical Technician;
  • One year experience as a Firefighter or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES:

  • Valid Pennsylvania Emergency Medical Technician certification;
  • Current Health Care Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automatic External Defibrillator credentials;
  • Firefighter I or II certification;
  • Rescue Training certificate
  • Pumps Training certificate (Required)
  • NIMS courses 100, 200, 700 and 800
  • Valid Emergency Vehicle Operations course for apparatus driver (EVOC);
  • Valid Emergency Medical Services Vehicle Operator class (EMSVO);
  • Valid Class C Pennsylvania or equivalent motor vehicle operator license;
  • Successful completion of department’s standard medical examination;
  • Response to Hazardous Materials Incidents- Operations level;
  • Pass a background investigation;
