Fireman/OHS assistant

Job Purpose:

To support the implementation of fire safety and occupational health & safety measures across the facility, ensuring a safe working environment and compliance with safety regulations and company policies.

Key Responsibilities:

Fire Safety Responsibilities:

• Conduct regular inspection and maintenance of firefighting equipment (extinguishers, hydrants, hoses, alarms, sprinklers, etc.).
• Respond immediately to fire alarms and emergencies, ensuring prompt and safe evacuation.
• Participate in fire drills and assist in training staff on fire safety procedures.
• Maintain fire logs and inspection records.
• Ensure fire exits, emergency routes, and safety signage are always clear and functional.
• Monitor and report any fire hazards or unsafe practices to the HSE Officer.

OHS Responsibilities:

• Assist in daily safety inspections of the workplace, machinery, and PPE compliance.
• Report unsafe conditions, near misses, or incidents to the OHS department.
• Support the implementation of safety programs, toolbox talks, and awareness sessions.
• Help in conducting risk assessments and accident investigations.
• Ensure proper housekeeping and waste disposal in assigned areas.
• Maintain records of safety observations, first aid incidents, and training activities.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Minimum Intermediate / Diploma in Fire Safety or Occupational Health & Safety.
• Preferably certified in Firefighting / First Aid / OHS (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA, IOSH or equivalent).
• 1–3 years of relevant experience in industrial or manufacturing setup.

Skills & Competencies:

• Knowledge of fire safety systems and emergency response.
• Basic understanding of occupational health & safety standards.
• Ability to remain calm and act quickly during emergencies.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Physically fit and alert.

Work Environment:

• Factory / plant / warehouse environment.
• Shift-based work; may require standby during off-hours or emergencies.
