Freelance Reporter (Permalancer) â Energy, Sustainability & Capital Flows

Overview

Arabian Business is seeking a full-time Permalancer to lead authoritative coverage of energy, sustainability, and capital flows across the Middle East for an initial 12-month term, with scope to extend.

This is a senior-level role focused on oil and gas, renewable, decarbonisation, energy transition, sovereign-backed investment strategies, and cross-border capital movements shaping the region's long-term economic strategy and global positioning.

Requirements

• Key Responsibilities:
• Break exclusive stories on major energy investments, infrastructure projects, M&A activity, and financing transactions across the GCC.
• Produce in-depth features, executive interviews, and sector analysis across oil & gas, renewable, hydrogen, decarbonisation, and climate finance.
• Cover sovereign wealth fund allocations, institutional capital flows, and regional investment strategies linked to energy and sustainability.
• Track regulatory developments, climate policy, energy pricing dynamics, and infrastructure financing models.
• Deliver forward-looking insight into how energy transformation and sustainability agendas influence capital markets and economic competitiveness.
• Contribute to recurring sector briefings, special reports, and vertical newsletters.
• Collaborate with video and podcast teams to extend reporting into multimedia formats where relevant.

Qualifications

• Experience in energy, finance, or macroeconomic reporting.
• Strong understanding of regional capital flows and sovereign investment structures.
• Ability to generate exclusive, boardroom-relevant stories.
• Confident interviewing C-suite executives and senior officials.
