Job Title: Full-Charge Bookkeeper

As we expand, we're seeking a dedicated Full-Charge Bookkeeper to manage our accounting function to support informed business decisions, and comply with laws and regulations.
Position Summary: We are seeking an experienced Full-Charge Bookkeeper to take full ownership of our day-to-day revenue collection, payables, and payroll processes. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with strong customer communication skills, bookkeeping talents with proficiency in QuickBooks Online accounting software, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. The position reports directly to the remote Chief Finance and Marketing Officer. The ability to work independently is key, as is the initiative to identify inefficiencies and make thoughtful recommendations to improve accounting processes and workflows. In the home improvement sector, the ideal candidate will understand project-based financial tracking and compliance needs (such as lien documentation). The role includes a private office in our beautiful Scottsdale showroom.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the full accounting cycle, including recording transactions, maintaining the general ledger, and preparing adjusting journal entries.
- Process accounts payable: review, code, and enter vendor invoices (including dynamic job-cost coding for projects), prepare payments, and manage vendor relationships.
- Handle accounts receivable: generate customer invoices, post payments, perform AR aging analysis and meetings, and support collections efforts as needed.
- Prepare bank and credit card reconciliations, and other balance sheet accounts weekly with high accuracy and timeliness.
- Perform revenue and expense reconciliations, including matching deposits and ensuring proper job costing allocation for construction/installation projects amongst our territories.
- Assist in developing, preparing, and analyzing monthly financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow), along with key reports for management review.
- Assist with payroll processing, and preparation of 1099s and other compliance documents.
- Maintain accurate documentation for mechanic's liens, lien waivers/releases, and related customer correspondence in coordination with project managers.
- Monitor cash flow, identify project level discrepancies, and proactively recommend improvements to accounting processes and internal controls.
- Support month-end and year-end closing procedures, including accruals and prepaids.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP while maintaining organized financial records for compilations and tax preparation.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Minimum 3 years of full-charge bookkeeping experience, preferably in construction, home improvement, or a project-based industry.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field (preferred but not required with equivalent experience).
- Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online (required); experience with Salesforce or similar CRM a plus.
- Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, data analysis).
- Solid understanding of accounting principles, general ledger maintenance, and financial reporting.
- Experience with job costing, vendor payments, and lien/waiver processes in construction/home improvement is highly desirable.
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational and communication skills; professional demeanor when interacting with team members, vendors, and customers.
- Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision, take initiative, and make process improvement recommendations to leadership.
