Position Overview

The GL Accountant ensures the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of NCH’s financial records through effective management of the general ledger, month-end close, and tax reporting activities. The role is responsible for delivering reliable financial data that supports decision-making and regulatory compliance, in line with IFRS and NCH finance policies.

Working closely with the commercial stakeholders and cross-functional teams, the GL Accountant drives accuracy, transparency, and continuous improvement in accounting processes. The position plays a vital role in maintaining strong internal controls, supporting audits, and ensuring that all financial reporting reflects NCH’s values of integrity, partnership, and practical excellence.


Roles and Responsibilities

Month-End Close Management

  • Own and execute the monthly close calendar and checklist, ensuring all deadlines and control steps are met.
  • Coordinate inputs from accounting, FP&A, and commercial teams to complete month-end activities efficiently.
  • Review and post journal entries, accruals, and provisions in line with NCH accounting policies and IFRS.
  • Ensure trial balance accuracy, completeness, and reconciliation before reporting cut-off.
  • Monitor intercompany transactions and ensure correct recording, elimination, and reconciliation.

General Ledger Oversight

  • Maintain and govern the chart of accounts, ensuring alignment across all entities and business units.
  • Review GL postings for accuracy, proper classification, and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Investigate anomalies promptly and recommend corrective actions to ensure data integrity.
  • Support automation and process improvement of GL functions through Microsoft Dynamics 365.

Balance Sheet Reconciliations

  • Prepare and review monthly reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts.
  • Identify and resolve variances or long-outstanding items in coordination with stakeholders.
  • Ensure reconciliations are properly documented and supported with valid evidence.
  • Flag potential risks and propose corrective actions to the Finance Director.

Fixed Assets Accounting

  • Maintain and update the fixed assets register, ensuring correct capitalisation, depreciation, and disposal accounting.
  • Verify asset additions and disposals for compliance with company capitalisation policies.
  • Support annual physical verification and reconciliation of fixed assets.

Accruals and Provisions Control

  • Review monthly accruals and provisions to ensure accuracy and timeliness of reversals.
  • Monitor expense trends and propose adjustments to enhance reporting accuracy.
  • Ensure all supporting documentation is properly maintained and auditable.

Tax and VAT Management

  • Prepare and submit VAT returns in compliance with UAE Federal Tax Authority requirements.
  • Reconcile VAT-related GL accounts and maintain supporting schedules.
  • Coordinate with external consultants on Corporate Income Tax (CIT) preparation and filing.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and assess their impact on NCH’s tax obligations and accounting practices.
  • Maintain complete documentation to support audits and regulatory reviews.

Audit and Internal Controls

  • Act as the primary liaison for external and internal auditors.
  • Prepare audit schedules, perform walkthroughs, and respond promptly to audit queries.
  • Support the timely closure of audit findings and implementation of recommendations.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and approval workflows.
  • Maintain audit readiness throughout the year through strong documentation and process discipline.

Reporting and Review

  • Validate and analyse financial statements for accuracy and compliance with IFRS and company policy.
  • Support FP&A with clean data for budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting.
  • Assist in preparing financial inputs for board submissions and regulatory filings.

ERP and Data Accuracy

  • Ensure integrity of accounting data within Microsoft Dynamics 365, including master data and cost centre structures.
  • Participate in ERP testing, updates, and enhancement projects related to financial modules.
  • Collaborate with IT to maintain accurate mapping of accounts and reporting templates.

Process Improvement and Automation

  • Identify inefficiencies in accounting and reconciliation processes and recommend practical improvements.
  • Partner with IT and ERP teams to automate recurring journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reports.
  • Champion process standardisation and digitalisation across finance workflows.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work closely with commercial, operations, and finance teams to ensure accuracy and transparency in reporting.
  • Coordinate with tax advisors, auditors, and external regulators for compliance and submissions.
  • Support the Finance Director in executive-level reporting, risk reviews, and control governance.


Qualifications & Skills

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; Master’s degree or professional certification (ACCA, CPA, CMA) is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or finance, including at least 3 years in General Ledger operations.
  • Proven experience within trading, distribution, or FMCG businesses preferred.
  • Solid understanding of IFRS, internal control principles, and financial reporting standards.
  • Prior exposure to audit coordination, tax compliance, and financial system migration or implementation is advantageous..

Technical & Functional Skills

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics 365 or similar ERP systems; ability to manage data accuracy and financial workflows.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace.
  • Comprehensive understanding of UAE VAT and Corporate Tax regulations; certification is an advantage.
  • Expertise in balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, provisions, and intercompany accounting.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply accounting policies and internal controls.
  • Familiarity with fixed assets accounting, audit documentation standards, and financial close processes.
