Graphic Designer

Lahore, Pakistan

  • Conceptualization and Ideation: This is the first and most critical step. Designers work with clients, art directors, or marketing teams to understand the project's goals, target audience, and key message. They then brainstorm and develop creative concepts and visual solutions.
  • Creating Visual Assets: This is the hands-on work of designing. It includes:
  • Layout & Composition: Arranging text, images, and other elements in a visually appealing and effective way (e.g., for brochures, magazines, websites, reports).
  • Typography: Selecting and styling fonts to enhance readability, create hierarchy, and convey a specific tone.
  • Image Editing & Manipulation: Using software like Adobe Photoshop to edit photos, create composites, and prepare images for use.
  • Illustration & Iconography: Creating original vector-based graphics, icons, and illustrations using tools like Adobe Illustrator.
  • Branding & Identity Development: Many designers are responsible for creating and maintaining a company's visual identity. This includes:
  • Designing logos, color palettes, and typography systems.
  • Creating brand style guides that dictate how the brand should be represented across all media.
  • Ensuring all materials are consistent with the brand's identity.
  • Software Proficiency: Mastery of industry-standard design software is non-negotiable. The primary tools are:
  • Adobe Creative Suite (The Holy Trinity):
  • Photoshop: For image editing and web/mobile UI design.
  • Illustrator: For vector graphics, logos, icons, and illustrations.
  • InDesign: For multi-page layout design (e.g., books, magazines, brochures).
  • Other Key Tools: Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD for UI/UX and web design; After Effects for motion graphics; Canva for quick, templated social graphics.
  • Preparing Files for Production: A crucial technical skill. Designers must prepare their final files correctly for print or digital delivery. This includes:
  • For Print: Setting up bleeds, crop marks, color mode (CMYK), and high-resolution files.
  • For Web/Digital: Exporting assets in the correct formats (JPEG, PNG, SVG, GIF), sizes, and resolutions (RGB color mode).
  • Collaboration and Communication: Designers rarely work in a vacuum. They must:
  • Present and explain their design concepts and choices to clients, managers, and team members.
  • Accept and incorporate constructive feedback (a process often called "iteration").
  • Collaborate with other professionals like writers, marketers, web developers, and printers.
  • Staying Current: The design field is always evolving. Designers must continuously learn about new trends, software updates, design techniques, and cultural shifts to keep their work fresh and effective.
