Position Summary
The Graphic Designer is a key member of the marketing team, responsible for creating visual content that communicates the organization’s message and strengthens its brand. This role supports both print and digital design, photography, website content, and overall brand development. The ideal candidate brings creative vision, technical skill, and thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Graphic Design & Visual Content Creation

Create visually compelling graphics for marketing materials including brochures, flyers, posters, digital ads, social media, email campaigns, and website banners.

Develop and implement creative design concepts that align with brand guidelines and target audience preferences.

Illustrate design concepts by producing rough layouts of art and copy, considering arrangement, size, typography, and overall aesthetic.

Ensure all final designs meet high quality standards and are delivered on schedule.

Assist with updates to the Science Center’s website, including uploading content, maintaining design consistency, and supporting user experience improvements.
2. Collaboration & Project Support

Work closely with the marketing team to understand project goals, messaging, and creative direction.

Provide design expertise during brainstorming sessions, campaign development, and promotional planning.

Adapt and revise existing materials based on feedback and evolving needs.
3. Photography & Image Editing

Capture and edit high-quality images for use across print and digital platforms.

Maintain an organized photo library and ensure visual assets are current and aligned with the brand image.
4. Industry Awareness & Best Practices

Stay up-to-date on graphic design trends, tools, and best practices.

Seek continuous improvement in design approach, software skills, and visual storytelling techniques.
Qualifications
Required:

Proven experience as a graphic designer or in a similar creative role.

Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).

Strong understanding of layout, color theory, and typography.

Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

A portfolio showcasing a range of design projects.
Preferred:

Experience with photography and photo editing.

Familiarity with website content management systems (CMS).

Experience with motion graphics or video editing is a plus.
Work Environment & Expectations

This is a fast-paced, creative role requiring flexibility and responsiveness to shifting priorities.

The Graphic Designer should be comfortable receiving feedback from multiple stakeholders, including the Board of Trustees, and be able to revise work based on preference rather than performance. Flexibility, a positive attitude, and a solution-oriented approach are essential.”

Occasional evening or weekend work may be required around campaign launches or special events.
