Job Summary:

The Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining the exterior of the hotel property, ensuring that all outdoor areas, including gardens, lawns, walkways, parking lots, and surrounding landscapes, are well-kept, clean, and aesthetically pleasing. This position involves routine maintenance tasks, seasonal landscaping, debris removal, and ensuring that the hotel's outdoor areas are safe and welcoming for guests and staff alike.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Landscape & Lawn Care:
    • Maintain and care for lawns, flower beds, shrubs, trees, and other landscaping features, ensuring they are healthy, attractive, and properly maintained.
    • Mow lawns, trim hedges, edge walkways, and fertilize plants to enhance the hotel's outdoor aesthetics.
    • Water plants, lawns, and garden beds according to the weather conditions and seasonal requirements.
    • Plant and replace flowers, shrubs, and trees as needed to maintain the hotel’s landscape design and appearance.
  • Debris Removal & Cleaning:
    • Regularly remove debris, trash, and litter from the hotel grounds, parking lots, and walkways to maintain a clean and tidy environment.
    • Sweep and clean outdoor areas such as patios, courtyards, entranceways, and outdoor seating areas, ensuring that these spaces are inviting and well-maintained.
    • Empty outdoor trash receptacles and dispose of waste properly.
  • Snow Removal (Seasonal):
    • During winter months, assist with snow and ice removal from walkways, parking lots, and entryways to ensure the safety of guests and staff.
    • Use snow shovels, salt, or de-icing agents to clear walkways and other frequently used outdoor spaces.
  • Maintenance of Outdoor Equipment & Facilities:
    • Perform minor repairs and maintenance on outdoor furniture, equipment, and structures, such as benches, fences, and outdoor lighting fixtures.
    • Ensure that any outdoor signage, pathways, and structures are in good repair and free of hazards.
  • Safety & Hazard Prevention:
    • Regularly inspect the grounds for safety hazards, such as uneven surfaces, exposed roots, or broken sidewalks, and report them to the maintenance team for repair.
    • Ensure that outdoor lighting is functional and that walkways are free of obstacles that could pose risks to guests or staff.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
    • Work closely with the maintenance and housekeeping teams to coordinate efforts on property care and outdoor cleanliness.
    • Communicate with the hotel management and other departments to address any immediate outdoor concerns, such as storm damage, landscaping issues, or cleaning needs.

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience with lawn care equipment, power tools, and outdoor maintenance tasks is a plus.

Skills/Specialized Knowledge

  • Knowledge of basic landscaping techniques, including planting, pruning, mowing, and irrigation.
  • Ability to use landscaping tools and equipment, including lawnmowers, trimmers, blowers, and pressure washers.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions.
  • Knowledge of basic safety practices when using outdoor tools and handling chemicals (e.g., fertilizers, pesticides).

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform manual labor, such as bending, kneeling, and walking for extended periods.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including hot, cold, or rainy environments.
  • Frequent use of hands and arms for operating landscaping tools and equipment.
  • Ability to work in various environments, including dusty, noisy, and high-traffic areas.
