Under the general supervision of the Grounds Supervisor, the Groundskeeper is responsible for the maintenance of the college grounds including lawns, shrubbery, trees, care of new and existing flower beds; snow removal; use of machinery and equipment; and assisting with athletic field maintenance as well as preparation of college events on college grounds. The Groundskeeper is dedicated to the learning college concepts by developing programs and facilitating activities that promote student success and lifelong learning.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Maintenance of Lawns: Consists of cutting grass, use of weed eaters, planting and removal of trees or shrubbery, application of water soluble fertilizer and the scouting of diseases in flowers, trees and shrubs.
2. Removal of Snow: Plow parking lots and perimeter road, shovel all sidewalks and walkways; load and unload 50 lb. salt boxes for salting sidewalks and walkways.
3. Operation of Equipment: Utilizes equipment and machinery such as sweepers, mowers, and forklifts.
4. Care of New and Existing Flower Beds: Water all plants, weed to maintain healthy beds for plants to grow and develop.
5. Preparation for College Events: Set up tables and chairs, provide trash receptacles, and post signage for all College events; pick up litter, cut grass and clean area before and after each event.
6. Maintenance of Athletic Fields: Assist the Athletic Field Groundskeeper as needed.
7. Performs other related duties as assigned


Education/Experience
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Minimum 1 (ONE) year experience in grounds/nursery including lawn maintenance or related experience required.

Qualifications
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to qualify as insurable by college liability insurance carrier.
  • Current spray license as required by state/federal law or appropriate training to receive license preferred.
  • Ability to perform the duties of this job: the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee is required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
