Role:
Lead Universal EV’s India market entry and scale-up. You’ll (1) mine Indian central & state EV/energy policies to create actionable opportunities, (2) co-build business strategy with the U.S. leadership team, and (3) recruit and develop a high-performing India org spanning business development, partnerships, and operations.
What you’ll own
- Policy → Pipeline: Track central/state EV & power-sector policies, tenders, DISCOM programs, and incentives; translate into go-to-market (GTM) plays, pricing, and target accounts (public, fleet, real estate, OEM, retail).
- India Strategy w/ US Team: Build India business plans (TAM/SAM, route-to-market, partnerships, capex/opex, P&L), align product/roadmap, and define multi-year expansion milestones.
- Partnerships & BD: Secure anchor partnerships (OEMs, CPOs, real-estate developers, fleets, oil & gas/retail networks); structure commercial models (host, revenue share, MSP/CPO).
- Deployment & Operations: Stand up site acquisition, permitting, EPC, utility interface, installation, and O&M for AC/DC fast charging; drive uptime, utilization, and customer NPS.
- Team Building: Hire and lead a bench of senior ICs/managers across BD/partnerships, program management, and field ops; instill data-driven, safety-first execution.
- Governance & Reporting: Own India P&L and dashboards (unit economics, station-level EBITDA, utilization, reliability, SLA adherence); present to execs/Board.
- Compliance & Risk: Ensure statutory/regulatory compliance (electrical codes, metering, safety), vendor/contract risk management, and EHS standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- 12 to 18+ years in scaling businesses in energy/e-mobility/infra/clean tech, including senior leadership across business development and operations (P&L or regional/country ownership).
- Demonstrated success launching/expanding EV charging or adjacent infra (power/renewables/industrial) with complex stakeholder management (OEMs, CPOs, real-estate, utilities).
- Built and led multi-disciplinary teams (sales/BD, program/field ops, vendor network).
- Strong grasp of India EV charging ecosystem: policy instruments, state EV policies, DISCOM interfaces, site economics, and O&M models (uptime, SLAs). Benchmarks from comparable roles emphasize exactly these capabilities.
- Comfort with commercial structures (host agreements, MSAs/SLAs, EPC/O&M, revenue share) and financial modeling (site P&L, payback/IRR).
- Excellent cross-border collaboration and executive communication skills.
- Excellent at communication (Proficiency in English (spoken and written) is a must)
Nice to have
- Experience with OCPP-based networks, charger vendor ecosystems (AC, DCFC), and MSP/CPO software; exposure to payment/roaming, demand charges, and grid upgrades.
- Prior work with public-sector tenders or PPPs; relationships with DISCOMs, SNA (state nodal agencies), major REITs/malls, highway concessionaires, and fleet operators.
- Technical degree (EE/Civil/Mech) plus MBA, or equivalent operating track record at a CPO/OEM/energy major.
