The Head of Engineering is a strategic leadership position responsible for overseeing all technical aspects, engineering design, project execution, and quality control for the company’s Generator (Genset) and Solar Photovoltaic (PV) solutions. This role is crucial for ensuring the technical integrity, efficiency, and successful deployment of all projects, from conceptual design through commissioning and handover.
Key Responsibilities
1. Engineering Leadership & Strategy
- Technical Authority: Serve as the final technical authority for all Genset and Solar PV projects, ensuring designs comply with international standards (e.g., IEC, IEEE) and local regulations (e.g., NEPRA).
- Strategic Planning: Develop and implement the engineering department's strategic goals, focusing on efficiency, cost reduction, innovation, and quality improvement across both the Genset and Solar verticals.
- Technology Assessment: Evaluate new technologies, components (e.g., high-efficiency PV modules, advanced inverters, smart controllers), and engineering practices to maintain a competitive edge.
2. Design and Project Management Oversight
- Design & Optimization: Oversee the preparation of detailed engineering designs, including Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), array layouts, electrical schematics, civil works plans, and mechanical mounting structures for solar and Genset synchronization/grid-tie solutions.
- Project Execution: Provide technical guidance and support to the Project Management Office (PMO) to ensure projects are executed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
- Quality & Compliance: Establish rigorous quality control procedures for design, procurement specifications, installation, testing, and commissioning activities. Ensure compliance with Net Metering and Grid Code requirements.
- BOM & Procurement: Approve the Bill of Materials (BOM) and technical specifications for procurement, ensuring optimal value and performance from suppliers.
3. Team Management & Development
- Mentorship: Lead, mentor, and manage a team of multi-disciplinary engineers (Electrical, Mechanical, Solar PV Specialists, and CAD designers).
- Performance: Set clear performance objectives, conduct regular reviews, and foster a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement within the engineering team.
- Resource Allocation: Effectively manage engineering resources across multiple simultaneous projects.
4. Genset Specifics
- Oversee the engineering related to synchronization panels, Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), parallel operations, and integration of Gensets with hybrid solar/battery storage systems.
- Ensure accurate sizing and selection of Gensets based on client load profiles and operational requirements.
5. Technical Sales Support
- Collaborate closely with the Sales team to provide high-level technical input during the pre-sales phase, assisting in complex proposals, client presentations, and technical feasibility studies.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is mandatory. A Master's degree in Electrical, Energy Systems, or a related field is highly desirable.
- Experience: 10+ years of progressive experience in the Power Sector, with a minimum of 3 years in a senior leadership/management role overseeing both Genset/Power Plant and Solar PV system engineering and execution.
- Technical Expertise:
- Deep expertise in Utility-Scale and Commercial & Industrial (C&I) Solar PV system design.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Genset commissioning, synchronization, and grid-tie/hybrid integration.
- Proficiency with engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, PVSyst, Helioscope, ETAP/Power System Analysis tools).
- Leadership Skills: Proven track record of managing and developing high-performing engineering teams.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reporting to management and engaging with technical and non-technical clients.
