Head of Oil and Gas Operations

Job summary

The Head of Oil and Gas Operations leads and oversees all operational activities across upstream, midstream, and/or downstream oil and gas functions. This role is responsible for operational performance, production efficiency, HSE compliance, asset reliability, budget control, and cross-functional coordination to support business and strategic goals. Similar oil and gas operations leadership roles focus on coordinating operations, managing teams and subcontractors, controlling budgets, and ensuring safety and production standards are met.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead daily and long-term oil and gas operations to ensure safe, efficient, and uninterrupted performance.
  • Oversee production targets, operational KPIs, asset uptime, and service delivery standards.
  • Develop and implement operational strategies to improve productivity, profitability, and process efficiency.
  • Manage budgets, cost control, forecasting, and resource allocation across operations.
  • Ensure strict compliance with Qatari regulations, company policies, HSE standards, and industry best practices.
  • Direct risk assessments, incident management, emergency response planning, and corrective actions.
  • Lead, coach, and develop operations teams, contractors, and third-party service providers.
  • Coordinate with engineering, maintenance, projects, logistics, commercial, and support teams to align operations with business priorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering, mechanical engineering, process engineering, operations management, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of oil and gas experience, including significant leadership responsibility.
  • Strong knowledge of oil and gas operations, HSE systems, asset integrity, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, teams, contractors, and multi-site operations.
  • Excellent decision-making, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Experience in Qatar or the GCC is often preferred.

Preferred qualifications

  • Master’s degree or MBA.
  • Experience in upstream production, terminal operations, refinery operations, or integrated energy operations.
  • Familiarity with emergency preparedness, incident investigation, and operational risk management.
  • Professional certifications in HSE, project management, or operations leadership.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Contract, Permanent, New grad, Temporary, Internship
Contract length: 12 months

Pay: QAR55.00 - QAR75.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 20 per week
