Job Description

A Health and Safety Officer plays a pivotal role in ensuring the well being and safety of employees and the public within various work environments. By implementing, monitoring, and improving safety standards and policies, they help prevent workplace accidents and occupational health issues. Working closely with management and employees, they foster a culture of safety and diligence, ensuring compliance with relevant health and safety legislation. A detail oriented and proactive approach is essential for a Health and Safety Officer, who must anticipate potential hazards and be prepared to take swift and effective action when necessary.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and review health and safety policies and procedures regularly.
• Conduct thorough risk assessments and audits to identify potential workplace hazards.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety laws and regulations.
• Provide training and educational programs on safety practices to employees.
• Investigate accidents or incidents and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation on health and safety measures and incidents.
• Liaise with government agencies and ensure regulatory compliance in health and safety matters.
• Advise management on safety protocols to mitigate identified risks and accidents.
• Coordinate emergency response procedures and drills regularly in the workplace.
• Inspect workplace equipment and processes to ensure they meet safety standards.
• Collaborate with occupational health services to manage workplace health programs.
• Promote a culture of continuous improvement in workplace safety and health practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field.
• Proven experience as a Health and Safety Officer or similar role.
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with personnel.
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar certification preferred.
• Analytical skills to assess risks and implement effective safety solutions.Proficient in using technology and software for data recording and reporting.
