Patton State Hospital, Human Resources is accepting applications for at least one (1) permanent, full-time appointment to the Health Record Technician II Specialist classification in the Health Information Management Department (HIMD). Training and Development opportunity may also be considered. This position is under the direction of the Health Record Technician III Supervisor and general supervision of the HIMD Director.
The HRT II Specialist independently reviews, compiles, and distributes the daily census summary, patient movement report, and multiple monthly census reports; codes difficult and more complex patient records that requires in-depth review including Fee-For-Service and ancillary forms to include Medicare Parts B and D, utilizing medical terminology, International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10), Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) and Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding systems, within specified timeframes to meet regulatory agency requirements; corresponds with providers to ensure accuracy of coding and billing; validates diagnosis to medication entries by pharmacy for Medicare Part D; performs health record maintenance, including filing, thinning and splitting of records.
The HRT II Specialist is expected to maintain confidentiality, privacy, and security of Protected Health Information (PHI) and Personally Identifiable Information (PII); maintain professionalism and work positively with all levels of management, supervisors, and staff; promote effective teamwork; utilize a high degree of initiative, judgement, and responsibility; maintain a professional appearance; comply with hospital policies and procedures; and report to work on time.

Working Conditions
Patton is a forensic psychiatric hospital and was established in 1890 and opened in 1893. DSH-Patton provides treatment to forensically and civilly committed patients within a secure treatment area. The hospital does not accept voluntary admissions.

Desirable Qualifications
One-year experience working in a healthcare or correctional facility in the HIM department, performing duties related to health record maintenance and abstracting/coding; experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Adobe; and possession and maintenance of an accreditation through American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) are beneficial but not required.
The HRT II Specialist must possess the following:
KNOWLEDGE: Basic medical terminology, human terminology and human anatomy; health record systems and methodology used by health facilities; classification of morbidity and mortality information for statistical purposes.
ABILITY TO: Understand and conform to specific basic principles and rules of health data abstracting and coding; meet and deal tactfully with the public; communicate effectively; and benefit from academic and in-service training and job experience.

Training and Development Information
Training and Development (T&D) assignments are temporary assignments of up to 24 months for training purposes. DSH encourages the use of T&D assignments to provide employees the opportunity to obtain any or a combination of the following:
