Software Engineering Senior Analyst – Mainframe (Developer)
Position Overview
We’re seeking a hands-on Mainframe developer to design, build, and maintain mission-critical solutions across our Core Systems in the healthcare domain. You’ll work in Agile squads, collaborate closely with product, QA, and SRE, and contribute to secure, robust, and scalable mainframe applications that elevate health outcomes for our customers.
Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain COBOL programs and JCL scripts for batch and online processing.

Build and optimize data access using DB2 and VSAM; leverage IMS DB/DC for transactional workloads.

Analyze requirements, estimate effort, create technical designs, and implement high-quality code with unit and integration tests.

Execute and support deployments; troubleshoot production issues and perform root-cause analysis.

Collaborate in Agile ceremonies (stand-ups, backlog refinement, sprint planning, reviews, retros); contribute to continuous improvement.

Version control and branch strategy using GitHub; participate in pull-request reviews and maintain CI workflows.

Use modern mainframe tooling (e.g., IBM Developer for z/OS (IDz), IBM Application Discovery & Delivery Intelligence (ADDI)) to accelerate development and impact analysis.

Write and maintain technical documentation (designs, runbooks, data mappings).

Partner with cross-functional teams (Product, QA, Security, Platform) to ensure compliance, performance, and reliability.

Uphold coding standards, secure coding practices, and change-management controls aligned to healthcare regulations.
Qualifications
Required Skills:

Strong hands-on expertise in COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, IMS (DB/DC).

Agile delivery experience (Scrum or SAFe); Jira/Confluence familiarity.

Healthcare domain knowledge (2+ years), with understanding of data privacy, regulatory, and compliance considerations.

Practical experience with GitHub (branches, PRs, code reviews).

Solid skills in debugging, performance tuning, and SQL optimization on z/OS.

Excellent communication, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:

Hands-on with IDz and ADDI for development, discovery, and impact analysis.

Experience with CI/CD practices for mainframe (pipelines, automated testing).

Exposure to service integrations (APIs, messaging) and secure data exchange patterns.
Required Experience & Education:

3–5 years of professional experience as a Mainframe developer.

College degree (Bachelor) in related technical/business areas or equivalent work experience.
