Household Manager

Household Manager (Part‑Time, 2 Days/Week + Remote Coordination) – Leander/Austin Area

Overview

We are a small family in Leander looking for a reliable, detail‑oriented household manager to take ownership of our home operations. This is an ongoing role helping us keep the house running smoothly, reduce our mental load, assist with errands and other household tasks listed below.

Position Details

- Title: Household Manager (Part‑Time)

- Location: Leander, TX (near Austin)

- Schedule: 2 on‑site days per week (about 4–5 hours each), plus light remote work during the week for coordination and scheduling

- Home size: ~2,500 sq ft single‑family home

- Start date: Flexible, ASAP for the right person

- Pay: Competitive hourly rate based on experience

Core Responsibilities

  • Household inventory and shopping

- Freezer inventory: Check weekly that we have enough meat, fish, and shellfish for the upcoming week; add needed items to the shopping list or place orders.

- Fridge/pantry inventory: Review “always‑in‑stock” items (fridge, pantry, snacks, basics) and restock as needed.

- Shopping and orders:

- Plan and execute a weekly grocery/household shop (HEB/Costco/Amazon, etc.), either in person or via delivery/pickup.

- Track and replenish household supplies: paper goods, cleaning products, soaps, trash bags, basic medications, and other staples.

  • Night‑nanny coordination (remote + in‑person check‑ins)

- Weekly scheduling check:

- Confirm we have night‑nanny coverage Monday–Thursday nights from 9 pm to 5 am.

- Identify any gaps in coverage and flag them to us promptly.

- Coordination:

- Communicate with the night nanny/agency to confirm shifts, manage any changes, and relay important information.

- Provide us with a simple weekly “coverage snapshot” so we always know what’s booked.

  • Direct support to Mom / household point of contact

- Act as a go‑to person for household needs:

- On each in‑home day, check in with Mom: “What do you need for the house this week?” and capture errands, purchases, or tasks.

- Add new tasks to a running list and move them forward (research options, get quotes, place orders, schedule services).

- Keep a simple shared list or note (e.g., in Notes/Google Keep) that we can all reference for:

- House to‑do items

- Shopping/low‑inventory items

- Upcoming appointments or vendor visits

  • Manage Cleaning and light home reset

Manage/sub‑out the cleaning to a trusted cleaner. You are responsible for making sure it gets done to a consistent standard.

- Monthly whole‑house cleaning:

- Bathrooms, kitchen, floors, dusting, and general tidy of common areas.

- Trash and recycling handled and taken out as needed.

- “Reset” on workdays:

- Common areas picked up and reset.

- Kitchen counters cleared and wiped.

- Dishwasher run or emptied.

- Monthly windows:

- Clean the front office windows, living room windows, and kitchen windows (interior; exterior as feasible/safe).

  • Vendor coordination and home maintenance

- Coordinate home services:

- Help schedule and be the point person (when possible) for home vendors: HVAC, plumber, appliance repair, pest control, etc.

- Light maintenance calendar:

- Maintain a simple digital or written calendar for recurring home tasks (AC filters, water softener salt if applicable, pest control schedule, etc.).

- Remind us of upcoming home maintenance items and schedule as requested.

  • Errands, packages, and returns

- Packages:

- Bring in packages, open as appropriate, break down boxes, and keep shipping materials manageable.

- Returns and errands:

- Handle simple returns (Amazon, Target, Costco, UPS drop‑offs) as needed.

- Occasional errands related to household needs (e.g., pick up a specific item that can’t be delivered).

  • Light household organization

- Keep key areas from drifting into chaos:

- Maintain order in pantry, fridge, and freezer (rotate older items to the front, label as needed).

- Periodic tidy/organization of high‑traffic zones (entryway, mudroom, office area, main living areas).

Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for someone who:

- Is highly organized and proactive; you see what needs to be done and take initiative.

- Is comfortable owning a checklist and also refining systems over time.

- Communicates clearly and respectfully, especially with Mom as the primary day‑to‑day contact.

- Is trustworthy, discreet, and respectful of our family’s privacy.

- Has previous experience in one or more of the following: household management, family assistant/personal assistant, or similar roles.

- Has reliable transportation and is comfortable running errands.

- Is comfortable using basic apps (text, email, shared notes, grocery apps) to coordinate and communicate.

Requirements

- Prior relevant experience (household manager, housekeeper, family assistant, or similar).

- Ability to pass a background check and provide professional references.

- Reliable transportation and current driver’s license.

- Non‑smoker preferred.

- Comfortable with pets if we add any in the future (let us know if you have allergies).

How to Apply

Please respond with:

- A brief introduction about yourself and your relevant experience.

- Your general availability for 2 weekdays (and any flexibility).

- Whether you prefer to personally handle cleaning, or manage/sub‑contract a cleaner.

- Your desired hourly rate.

- At least two references (households or employers you’ve supported in a similar role).

We’re looking for someone who wants a stable, long‑term relationship with our family and takes pride in keeping a home running smoothly with minimal stress for us. If that sounds like you, we’d love to talk.
