JOB SUMMARY

The HR Business Partner (HRBP) supports the Landscaping, Supply Chain Solutions, and Building Solutions departments, as well as the AbilIT, CIE, and Affordable Housing programs, by providing strategic HR guidance, employee support, and hands-on problem-solving to ensure the success and well-being of the organization’s workforce. This person will need to be on-site at the Hub in Portland 3-4 days a week to support hiring events and other employee needs throughout the week.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


1. HR Advisory & Employee Relations – 35%

a. Serve as an HR advisor to the Landscaping, Supply Chain Solutions, and Building Solutions departments, as well as the AbilIT, CIE, and Affordable Housing programs, offering guidance on employee relations, performance, and team dynamics.

b. Provide coaching and support to managers on conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and employee engagement.


2. Day-to-Day HR Support – 25%

a. Manage day-to-day HR tasks including documentation, policy implementation, and employee support.

b. Collaborate with managers and staff to address performance, attendance, and workplace concerns.


3. Talent Management – 15%

a. Support onboarding, offboarding, and talent planning for assigned teams.

b. Contribute to succession planning and workforce development initiatives.


4. Cross-Functional HR Projects – 10%

a. Participate in DEIB, employee engagement, and culture-building initiatives.

b. Recommend improvements to HR processes, policies, and systems.


5. Compliance & Policy Support – 10%

a. Ensure HR practices align with organizational values, Oregon employment law, and nonprofit standards.

b. Assist with leave tracking, reasonable accommodations, and workplace policy compliance.


6. Other Duties as Assigned – 5%

a. Perform additional responsibilities as needed to support organizational success.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3–5 years’ progressive HR experience with employee relations, manager coaching, and operational HR support.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust across all levels.
  • Working knowledge of Oregon employment law and nonprofit organizational environments.
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems; experience with UKG Ready or similar platforms preferred.
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion and empathy.
  • Comfort working in-office at least three days/week in a hybrid work environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Relevant HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP) a plus but not required.
  • College degree in HR, Business, or related field welcome but not required — skills, judgment, and experience are most important.
  • ASL Interpreter

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES


Knowledge of HR best practices, employee relations, talent management, compliance, and nonprofit organizational structures.


SCOPE & ACCOUNTABILITY


Performs duties independently while collaborating with the CHRO and fellow HRBP. Exercises judgment and discretion in addressing complex HR matters.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY


Ability to work with moderate supervision and make independent decisions within HR processes and employee support.
