The Role

Samuel Hale’s HR function operates on a three-tier service model. HRBPs own the client relationship. HR Compliance Specialists own technical compliance execution. The HR Generalist is the operational support layer that keeps everything moving, handling shared queue volume, supporting onboarding and offboarding workflows, maintaining HRIS data integrity, assisting with benefits and payroll inquiries, and backing the team across the full range of HR service delivery.

This is not a passive administrative role. The HR Generalist is a real contributor to a lean team serving 150+ PEO clients and 15,000+ worksite employees across 16 states. When the inbox needs to be worked, the Generalist works it. When a process needs to be documented, the Generalist documents it. When the team is stretched, the Generalist picks up what needs to be picked up.

This is the right role for someone who is early in building their HR career, wants real exposure to a complex, multi-client PEO environment, and is ready to earn more responsibility through consistent, accurate execution, not just by showing up.

What You Own

1. Shared Queue & Ticket Triage

Incoming client and employee inquiries are a shared team responsibility. You monitor the queue, triage requests by complexity and urgency, handle straightforward inquiries independently, and route complex matters to the HRBP or HR Compliance Specialist with the right context. Nothing sits because it’s not technically yours.

2. Onboarding & Offboarding Documentation Support

Support the documentation lifecycle for worksite employee onboarding and offboarding: collecting and verifying new hire paperwork, coordinating with clients on missing items, tracking completion status, and ensuring records are complete and submitted on time. Accuracy and timeliness here directly affect payroll processing and compliance.

3. HRIS Data Entry & Records Maintenance

Maintain accurate employee data in iSolved across client accounts. Enter updates, process status changes, and conduct regular data audits to catch and correct discrepancies. HRIS integrity is foundational to everything else the team produces; you are part of keeping it clean.

4. Benefits & Payroll Inquiry Support

Serve as a first-response resource for employee and client questions on benefits enrollment, plan basics, and payroll-related inquiries. Handle straightforward questions independently and escalate complex cases to the HR Compliance Specialist or HRBP with a clear summary of what is needed.

5. Compliance Tracking Support

Support compliance tracking activities including sexual harassment prevention training completion, I-9 status monitoring, and document expiration follow-up. Generate tracking reports, flag outstanding items, and coordinate follow-up with clients and recruiters as directed by the Compliance Specialist or HRBP.

6. Reporting & Administrative Support

Support the team with HR reporting, document preparation, correspondence drafting, and general administrative tasks that keep operations running. This includes maintaining organized digital files, supporting audit preparation, and contributing to SOP documentation as processes are built and refined.

What Winning Looks Like

At 60 days: You have a working knowledge of iSolved and the team’s core workflows. You are handling straightforward queue inquiries independently and routing complex ones with the right context. Onboarding documentation tasks assigned to you are completed accurately and on time.

At 90 days: You are a reliable contributor to the team’s daily operations. The HRBP and Compliance Specialist are not cleaning up your work or re-explaining the same processes. You are identifying what needs attention and moving on it without being asked.

At 6 months: You have demonstrated the accuracy, follow-through, and initiative that creates a clear path toward growing into deeper compliance or HRBP responsibilities over time.

Who You Are

You are not someone who needs a task list to stay productive. You see what needs doing, you do it accurately, and you follow through. You are organized enough to manage competing priorities, curious enough to learn a complex service environment quickly, and dependable enough that the team can count on what you produce.

Required

  • 2–4 years of HR, benefits administration, or HR operations experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, or related field required
  • Proficiency with HRIS platforms; iSolved, ADP, or Paylocity experience preferred
  • Strong data entry accuracy and records management habits
  • Comfortable handling a high volume of inquiries across multiple client accounts simultaneously
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; Excel competency required

Preferred

  • PEO, staffing, or professional services environment experience
  • Familiarity with ACA, I-9/E-Verify, or leave administration processes
  • HR certification in progress or completed: SHRM-CP or PHR
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a meaningful plus given the workforce populations we serve

What Will Not Work Here

  • Waiting for someone to tell you the queue needs to be worked, you are expected to see it and move
  • Data entry errors or incomplete records, in a PEO environment, inaccurate HRIS data cascades into payroll, benefits, and compliance failures
  • Needing the same process explained more than once, this is a fast-moving environment, and the expectation is that you build knowledge and retain it
  • Treating this as a stepping stone where you put in minimal effort while waiting for a better title, the path forward here is earned through the quality of your execution

Why This Role Is Different

Most HR Generalist roles put you in a box, processing transactions and answering the same questions on repeat. Here, you are inside a PEO HR function that is actively being built to scale, serving a diverse multi-state client portfolio, and working alongside HR professionals who take compliance and service quality seriously.

The exposure is real. The complexity is real. And the path to growing into a Compliance Specialist or HRBP role within this team is available, if you earn it through the quality of your work.
