Job Title: HR / Payroll Clerk

We’re now seeking an organized, detail-oriented HR / Payroll Clerk to join our team and play a key role in payroll processing, HR administration, and ensuring our team is supported and compensated accurately.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process full-cycle payroll for hourly and salaried employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Run commission calculations in coordination with sales leadership.
  • Review and approve timecards, overtime, and PTO requests; ensure compliance with company policy and state/federal regulations.
  • Manage employee onboarding (new hire paperwork, benefits enrollment, employee orientation) and off-boarding (exit paperwork, final pay, termination checklists).
  • Maintain accurate employee records (personnel files, status changes, benefit elections, termination records).
  • Work closely with our external HR provider when complex employee issues or policy questions arise.
  • Participate in benefits administration, assist employees with questions about payroll or HR matters.
  • Reconcile payroll entries with finance/accounts payable and support year-end processes (e.g., W-2s, 1099s).
  • Generate and report HR and payroll metrics to management (headcount, turnover, payroll cost by department).
  • Support compliance with employment laws (wage/hour, overtime, recordkeeping).
  • Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in payroll and HR workflows.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, HR, or Business preferred.
  • Proven experience (2+ years) in payroll processing and HR or payroll clerical functions.
  • Familiarity with time-keeping systems, payroll software, commission structures; experience with HRIS a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy with numbers and data.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; ability to interact with employees, management, external providers.
  • Knowledge of Alaska state and federal wage & hour laws preferred.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise discretion, and handle sensitive employee matters with professionalism.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and comfortable learning new software tools.
