Human Resource Generalist

Are you a compassionate, organized, and driven HR professional looking to make a meaningful impact? The Charles Lea Center is seeking an experienced HR Generalist to join our team and help support the incredible staff who serve individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities across Spartanburg County.


About the Role

As an HR Generalist, you’ll play a key role in managing the employee lifecycle—from recruitment and onboarding to compliance and employee relations. You’ll ensure our hiring practices align with SC DDSN standards and help foster a positive, person-centered workplace culture.


Key Responsibilities

Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Post job openings and manage applicant tracking
  • Coordinate interviews, background checks, and reference verifications
  • Support orientation and initial training in collaboration with the Training team

Compliance & Records

  • Ensure hiring practices meet SC DDSN and state employment standards
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records
  • Participate in policy development and HR audits

Employee Relations

  • Assist with conflict resolution, performance management, and disciplinary documentation
  • Support probationary reviews and exit interviews
  • Provide timely, action-oriented responses to employee concerns
  • Conduct employment verifications
  • Assist with benefit fairs, job fairs, and internal events

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Psychology, or Human Services preferred
  • 3+ years of HR experience (healthcare, nonprofit, or government preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of SC DDSN standards, FMLA, ADA, and EEOC regulations
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent communication, decision-making, and organizational skills
