Human Resource Generalist

Overview:

The HR Generalist plays a critical role in supporting the organization’s people strategy by delivering comprehensive human resources services across the employee lifecycle. This position partners closely with the Director of Human Resources, managers, and supervisors to ensure effective recruitment, compliance, employee relations, benefits administration, and HR operations.

The HR Generalist serves as a trusted advisor to leadership, guiding managers through employee relations matters, progressive discipline, investigations, and policy interpretation while fostering a positive and compliant workplace culture. This role ensures adherence to federal, state, and local employment laws and supports continuous improvement of HR processes, systems, and documentation.

From recruiting and onboarding to leave administration, benefits coordination, workers’ compensation support, timecard processing, and exit management, the HR Generalist ensures accurate, timely, and professional execution of HR functions. The position requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment, confidentiality, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Recruit, interview, select, and onboard qualified candidates, facilitating the full hiring process from vacancy through new hire orientation and onboarding.
  • Perform routine HR functions, including but not limited to compensation and benefits administration; leaves of absence; employee relations; such as disciplinary actions, disputes, investigations, terminations, and exit interviews; employee recognition; and training and development.
  • Administers all leave programs: FMLA, PMFL, Leave of Absence, short-term and long-term disability.
  • Responsible for drafting, updating, and maintaining HR forms, files, and HRIS system.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Administers and maintains benefits programs such as medical, dental, life, accident/critical care and disability insurances, PTO, leave of absence, and employee assistance.
  • Assist in coordinating workers’ compensation claims, including submission support, claim tracking, work status updates, and follow-up communication with supervisors and Environmental Health & Safety Manager.
  • Conduct exit interviews to determine reason behind separations and elevate any concerns to leadership or managers.
  • Processes timecards for payroll and manage time and attendance system.
  • Assist with investigating employee complaints and guide leads/managers in resolution of employee relation issues.
  • Advises managers and supervisors about the steps in the progressive discipline policies. Counsels leads/managers on employment issues.
  • Assist in development and implementation of human resource policies and procedures.
  • Partner with Director of Human Resources and Managers to resolve employee complaints and performance issues.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year College or university; or two to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.


Work Schedule:
This is a full‑time position. Standard daytime hours, Monday through Friday Onsite.
