Position Summary
This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Saddleback Medical Center. The employee shall support Saddleback Medical Center’s strategic plan and participate in and advocate performance improvement/patient safety activities.
Under the direction of the Vice President of Human Resources, OC Region, and the Manager of Human Resources, the Human Resources Generalist plays a critical role in fostering a positive and compliant workplace environment. This position serves as a trusted advisor to leaders and employees, providing expert guidance on complex employee relations matters. The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for conducting impartial, timely, and thorough investigations into workplace concerns, ensuring fair outcomes and adherence to organizational policies and employment laws. In addition to employee relations, this role supports the coordination and execution of special projects and events that enhance employee engagement and reinforce compliance initiatives. The Human Resources Generalist also manages key operational processes including the monthly Per Diem letter distribution, timely response to Employment Development Department (EDD) claims, and coordination of final paychecks in accordance with California Labor Laws. This position requires a high level of professionalism, discretion, and analytical skill, as well as the ability to navigate sensitive issues with empathy and objectivity. This individual will demonstrate strong communication and organizational abilities, and a commitment to upholding the values and standards of the organization.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job
Provides guidance to managers and employees on employee relations matters, including performance management, interpersonal conflicts, and misconduct. Ensures concerns are addressed promptly, effectively, and in a manner that promotes employee advocacy while mitigating organizational risk.
Coordinates and organizes employee engagement events such as Employee Service Awards, Benefits Fair, and Hospital Week, fostering a culture of recognition, retention, and connection.
Supports compliance and training initiatives by maintaining and following up on critical programs, including Annual Compliance Training, Preventing Harassment Training, and Meal and Rest Break Training for both management and staff, ensuring timely completion and regulatory adherence.
Facilitates employee trainings and new hire orientation sessions to support onboarding and ongoing staff education.
Demonstrates flexibility in scheduling and is available to work evenings, nights, and weekends as needed to support operational and employee relations needs across all shifts.
Serving as a mentor and resource to Human Resources Representatives and the HR Assistant, fostering their professional development and supporting their day-to-day responsibilities
Leading and supporting process improvement initiatives at the campus level to enhance efficiency, consistency, and compliance across HR functions
Ability to follow company policies, procedures and directives.

Minimum Requirements
Qualifications/Work Experience:
3-5 Years of Human Resources Generalist experience
Experienced in a Healthcare setting highly preferred
Working knowledge of Federal and State Labor and Wage & Hour Laws
Excelled written and oral communication skills
Education/Licensure/Certification:
Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field preferred
Senior or Professional Human Resources Certificate (SPHR or PHR) preferred
