Human Resources Generalist

The Human Resources Generalist plays a vital role in supporting Tucker Freight Lines by managing employee programs, assisting with benefits and leaves, and providing daily HR support across the organization. This position partners closely with the Director of HR, leadership, and employees to ensure compliance, strengthen communication, and enhance the overall employee experience.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open office and shop positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
Maintain accurate employee records and documentation within UKG and other HR systems.
Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
Act as a resource for employees and managers regarding company policies, HR procedures, and workplace concerns.
Provide guidance and support to employees and leaders on a range of HR topics, including performance management, employee relations, and compliance.
Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
Maintains the integrity and confidentiality of human resource files and records.
Serve as the primary point of contact for employee benefit and leave inquiries, providing clear and timely communication.
Support benefits administration, including open enrollment, new hire enrollment, and ongoing employee support.
Manage the leave of absence program, including FMLA and ADA administration, ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulations.
Acts as a liaison between the organization and external benefits providers and vendors, which may include health, disability, and retirement plan providers.
Maintain and update human resources documents, such as employee handbooks, job descriptions, or performance evaluation forms.
Partner with the Director of HR on special projects and continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen HR programs and company culture.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively at all levels of the organization.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Experienced in ensuring HR compliance, supporting benefits programs, and fostering positive employee relations.
Proficient in HRIS systems (preferably UKG) and Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
Must be a self-starter and have a positive, “can-do” attitude

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred
Minimum of 2 or more years of HR experience, ideally in a generalist or HR support capacity
Experience with FMLA/ADA administration and employee benefits preferred
HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP) is preferred
Experience in the transportation industry preferred
