UJZ Foods is a combination of two long established protein companies. Uncle John’s is a fresh and smoked sausage processor located in Tampa, Florida. Uncle John’s features brand name products under the banners of Uncle John’s, Garcia, Atlanta Sausage Company, and Realtree. The Garcia brand dates back to the 1960’s and the Uncle John’s brand to the 1970’s. Uncle John’s was acquired by the current investors in 2022.
The Zummo Meat Company was created in 1908 in Beaumont, TX and manufactures high quality, fresh and smoked sausage and boudin. The organization also offers jambalaya and dirty rice products. Zummo was acquired by the current investors in September of 2023. The two organizations were integrated and now managed as a single entity known as UJZ Foods. The combined organization has top line revenue of roughly $75M. The combined brands also rank as a top ten manufacturer nationally in the dinner sausage space.
The vision of the organization is to grow from a regional manufacturer to a super-regional and ultimately a national player in the sausage and adjacent spaces. To accomplish this growth plan, the organization must build out its overall management capabilities. To date, the Finance and Accounting responsibilities have been handled by a relatively junior team. With new owner and significant organic and inorganic strategic growth plans in place, the organization seeks to add a seasoned Human Resource Generalist who can help drive the growth initiatives while insuring the proper compliance systems, engagement initiatives, and performance goals are in place.
JOB DESCRIPTION
SUMMARY
An HR Generalist manages daily human resources operations, acting as a versatile liaison between employees and management. Key responsibilities include recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, payroll, and ensuring compliance with labor laws. They maintain employee records and support performance management, requiring strong communication and organizational skills.
Responsibilities and Duties
· Recruitment & Onboarding: Supports the full hiring cycle, including posting jobs, screening candidates, conducting interviews, and facilitating new hire orientation.
· Employee Relations: Acts as the first point of contact for workplace issues, mediating conflicts, conducting investigations, and promoting a positive workplace culture
· Benefits & Payroll Administration: Oversees employee benefits programs (health insurance, retirement) and coordinates with finance on payroll processing and inquiries.
· Compliance & Record Keeping: Ensures adherence to federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., OSHA, employment laws) and maintains confidential personnel files.
· Performance Management: Assists in the performance review process, assisting managers with evaluations and disciplinary actions.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
× Bachelor’s degree, or 7 years related Human Resources experience, SHRM CP/SCP preferred.
× 2-5+ years of progressive human resources leadership experience.
× Strong strategic planning, organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
× Understanding or Payroll systems, HRIS systems, Labor Laws
× Leadership & Team Development: Demonstrated ability to build, lead, and coach, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
× Ability to assess and manage conflict resolution, multitasking, interpersonal skills, and the highest form of confidentiality.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is inside a central heated and air-conditioned office building. There may be a need to enter and walk through a manufacturing setting and wear appropriate PPE. The noise level in the work environment is moderate. Manufacturing facility is refrigerated.
Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
