HVAC SUPERVISOR
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervision & Team Management:
- Lead, supervise, and train a team of HVAC technicians, ensuring efficient work processes and adherence to safety and quality standards.
- Assign tasks to technicians based on their skills and experience, ensuring timely completion of all HVAC-related work.
- Monitor team performance and provide constructive feedback, including regular performance reviews and ongoing training.
- Conduct team meetings and ensure communication of updates, schedules, and priorities.
- Ensure that team members are following proper procedures, protocols, and industry best practices.
- HVAC System Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
- Oversee the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of air-cooled and water-cooled chillers, ensuring that all systems are operating efficiently.
- Diagnose complex HVAC system issues, including refrigerant leaks, electrical problems, and mechanical failures, and lead troubleshooting efforts to resolve these issues.
- Review and approve maintenance schedules and ensure that systems are being serviced according to manufacturer recommendations and industry standards.
- Ensure that routine inspections and preventive maintenance tasks are performed on time and that equipment is kept in optimal working condition.
- HVAC System Installation & Upgrades:
- Supervise the installation of new HVAC systems, including chillers, cooling towers, air handlers, and related equipment, ensuring proper installation and functionality.
- Manage upgrades or retrofits of existing HVAC systems to improve energy efficiency, capacity, and performance.
- Project Management & Coordination:
- Oversee the execution of HVAC projects, ensuring that work is completed on time, within budget, and to specification.
- Coordinate with other departments (e.g., facilities, contractors, engineering) to ensure HVAC systems are integrated into larger facility projects.
- Assist in the planning and budgeting of HVAC maintenance and system upgrades.
- Compliance & Documentation:
- Ensure that all HVAC work complies with local building codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of maintenance, repairs, and inspections.
- Ensure that all documentation is in place for compliance purposes, including equipment logs, inspection reports, and service histories.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA safety regulations and hospital/industry-specific protocols (if applicable).
- Energy Efficiency & Sustainability:
- Monitor HVAC system performance and recommend improvements to increase energy efficiency and reduce operational costs.
- Identify opportunities for system upgrades, retrofits, or modifications that enhance energy savings or environmental sustainability.
- Emergency Response & Crisis Management:
- Lead the team in responding to HVAC system failures, ensuring rapid troubleshooting and resolution, particularly in critical environments like hospitals or industrial facilities.
- Coordinate emergency response efforts to restore HVAC systems, minimizing downtime and ensuring business continuity.
Qualifications:
- Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Additional certification in HVAC/R (e.g., EPA Certification, NATE Certification) or equivalent is highly desirable.
- 12+ years of hands-on experience in the HVAC field, with specific experience in air-cooled and water-cooled chillers, cooling towers, pumps, and related systems.
- 6-8 years of supervisory experience, with proven ability to lead, train, and manage HVAC teams effectively in an industrial or healthcare environment.
- Previous experience in facility management or working in commercial or hospital settings is highly preferred.
- Certifications & Training:
- EPA Certification (for refrigerants).
- NATE Certification or equivalent HVAC certifications.
- Relevant safety training (e.g., OSHA, First Aid, Confined Space Entry).
- Knowledge of HVAC-related building codes, energy efficiency standards, and environmental compliance regulations.
- Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC systems (air-cooled and water-cooled chillers, cooling towers, pumps, AHUs, etc.).
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex HVAC issues, particularly in commercial, industrial, or healthcare settings.
- Solid understanding of energy efficiency practices and ability to recommend and implement energy-saving solutions.
- Ability to use HVAC diagnostic tools and read system schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
- Proficient in using building management systems (BMS) and other computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
