The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Sport Fish is recruiting
for an Information Officer 2 located in Fairbanks, Alaska!

What You Will Be Doing:

As the Division of Sport Fish’s Information Officer 2, based in the Fairbanks office, you will be tasked with coordinating the information and licensing services for Region 3 to help achieve the objectives outlined in Goal 5 of the Alaska Department of Fish and Game Division of Sport Fish Strategic Plan 2022-2027. You will:

  • Administer and create content for ADF&G social media accounts, including the ADF&G Sport Fishing Interior Alaska Facebook page and the adfg.sportfish.interiorak Instagram page, to inform the public about season openings and closures, licensing and permit requirements and to highlight the sport fisheries of the region.

  • Edit emergency orders and write news releases, and explain State of Alaska sport fishing and personal use regulations to the public and media via phone, email, and social media - particularly the regulations found in the Northern Alaska Sport Fishing Regulations Summary booklet.

  • In cooperation with Division of Wildlife staff, oversee a public lobby and customer service desk to sell and issue licenses and permits, and to answer questions about regulations and sport fishing in the area.

  • Supervise seasonal customer service staff who assist the public with licenses, permits, and fishing information. Responsibility includes hiring, training, budgeting and writing performance evaluations.

  • Write general-interest articles for ADF&G online publications such as Reel Times and Alaska Fish & Wildlife News, and update and design brochures, hand-outs and displays for the public.

The Region 3 Communication & Outreach team consists of an Education Associate, an Information Officer, and seasonal customer service staff who work together to provide information, outreach, and licensing services by communicating fisheries science, regulations, and fishing opportunities to the public.

In the Fairbanks office, you will work with biologists studying and managing Alaska’s fish and wildlife, contributing to work that helps sustain these resources for anglers, communities, and future generations.

The job offers creative outlets through photography, video, writing, and graphic design, and it also provides the opportunity to build leadership experience by supervising seasonal customer service staff.

Our office is located at the Creamer’s Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge, giving you direct access to miles of trails for walking, skiing, wildlife viewing, and bird watching right outside the door, making it a uniquely beautiful and inspiring place to come to work every day.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:

This position is based at the Alaska Department of Fish and Game office on College Road in Fairbanks, located on the Creamer’s Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge.

You will have your own window office with views of Creamer’s Field, and you will regularly interact with members of the public in the office’s lobby and visitor center.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in

Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or progressively responsible experience in journalism, communications media, education, English, literature, fine arts, library science, radio, television, photography, advertising, marketing, sales, public relations and/or promotional work, freelance writing, technical writing and/or research, education, library work or other information dissemination field.

Special Note:
“Competencies” means a combination of interrelated knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors that enable a person to act effectively in a job or situation.

“Typically gained by” means the prevalent, usual method of gaining the competencies expected for entry into the job.

“Training” and “education” in this guidance are synonyms for the process of acquiring knowledge and skills through instruction. REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

    • A general-interest narrative drawn from your own outdoor experience, such as fishing, boating, camping, hiking, hunting, skiing, or a similar activity.
