The Office of Innovation and Performance is seeking to fill a part-time, paid Innovation and Data Intern position. This position will be responsible for conducting surveys, research, and analysis for a wide range of innovation and performance projects, providing administrative and technical assistance on substantive issues to a wide variety of audiences through presentations, on-site assistance, written materials, e-mails, and teleconferences. The Innovation Intern will be responsible for conducting data collection and quality assurance activities, supporting the management of the City Manager's Performance Dashboard. The individuals will also collaborate with city staff and community partners to develop community solutions aimed at improving livability for city residents, leveraging a human-centered approach to ensure that solutions align with the needs and expectations of community stakeholders. Reporting to the Director of Innovation or the Innovation and Data Manager, the selected candidates must be customer-centric, self-directed, and work independently.
They must also possess effective communication skills, being able to communicate both orally and in writing, to provide direction and support on projects. In addition, the individuals must be able to acquire and maintain a working knowledge of leveraging spreadsheets, design and data tools and presentation software to complete associated projects and tasks.
This position is part-time and is non-classified.
The temporary position is intended for the duration of the Spring Semester January of 2026 through April of 2026. The temporary position will have benefits but will not earn city retirement credits or participate financially into the city's retirement program. If the successful candidate is a current City employee, all benefits will still be applicable, and the employee will still contribute to their pension. Temporary positions are not covered under civil service rules, and thus employment is considered "at-will", and employees may be separated at any time.
The pay for this position is $20.02 hourly.
Part-time employees are eligible for earned paid sick time, city training, and free or discounted bus and light rail fares.
