Are you detail-oriented, customer-focused, and ready to make a meaningful impact in healthcare? Novant Health is seeking an Insurance Verification Specialist to join our dynamic team. In this role, you'll ensure that patients receive timely and accurate insurance coverage, facilitating a seamless healthcare experience.

What You'll Do:

  • Verify Insurance Coverage: Confirm patient eligibility, benefits, and coordination of benefits for scheduled services.
  • Obtain Authorizations: Review and secure necessary approvals for surgeries, radiology, and hospital stays.
  • Collaborate Across Departments: Work closely with admitting/registration, financial counseling, and utilization review teams.
  • Communicate with Providers: Coordinate with provider offices to initiate authorizations and gather clinical information.
  • Engage with Insurance Providers: Utilize phone and web portals to validate patient benefits and check authorization requirements.
  • Manage Communications: Handle inbound and outbound calls effectively, contributing to a remarkable patient experience.


What You Bring:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's Degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of one year in patient access, registration, billing, insurance, or pre-certification; call center or customer service experience required.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with medical terminology and patient registration systems (e.g., Epic); strong keyboarding skills.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to organize and prioritize work in a stressful environment.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as a team member and self-directed in a remote work environment

What We're Looking For:
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED, required. 2 Year / Associate Degree, preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum one year in patient access, registration, billing, insurance and/or pre-certification, any call center or customer service experience; required. Experience with insurance carriers or third party administrators is preferred.
  • Additional skills required:
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, experience and competency in customer relation skills in a professional environment. Ability to organize and prioritize work in a stressful environment. Ability to work effectively/productively as a member of a team and is self-directed in a remote work environment in various types of environments (e.g. onsite corporate locations, remote/home office).
    • Good problem solving skills. Basic medical terminology. Exemplary keyboarding skills and experience in patient registration systems (i.e. Epic) and familiarity with personal computers. Ability to perform several tasks simultaneously. Ability to drive/travel to multiple locations/facilities as needed.
    • Ability to understand how job performance affects the outcomes of key performance indicators such as denials and write-offs.
