The WEX Summer Internship Program: Learn, Lead, and Make an Impact

Our 13-week paid internship program, running from late May to mid-August, is a chance for you to gain real-world experience and develop your skills. Recruiting begins in September and continues through December at our various locations across the U.S.

You won't just be a bystander; you'll work on impactful projects and contribute to WEX’s mission. We provide mentorship, professional development, and weekly learning experiences to help you build confidence and leadership skills. High-performing interns may even get the chance to lead their own initiatives.

We offer remote, hybrid, and onsite options for flexibility, and our goal is to bring top interns back full-time or offer them extended roles during the school year.

About the Team/Role:

The Information Security team is looking for someone with a strong work ethic, fantastic attitude and who is comfortable tackling any challenge set before them. We provide significant flexibility and autonomy to team members, and have high expectations that everyone contribute meaningfully to our broader collective goals.

How you'll make an impact:

• Assist in reviewing, updating, and maintaining information security policies, standards, and procedures.

• Support risk assessment activities, including vendor/supply chain security risk reviews.

• Help track and document compliance with regulatory and industry frameworks (e.g., PCI DSS, NIST CSF, ISO 27001).

• Participate in internal security awareness and training campaigns.

• Assist with evidence collection for audits, assessments, and customer security questionnaires.

• Contribute to the monitoring and reporting of security metrics and compliance dashboards.

• Research emerging cybersecurity regulations, best practices, and technologies.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (IT, Legal, Procurement, etc.) to support security initiatives.

• The opportunity to engage with various stakeholders across the business and senior leadership teams.

• To train and develop your skills in your area of work with some of the best experts in the payment industry.

• To develop a solid understanding of IT operations, applications, systems and business related processes and procedures.

• To become familiar with WEX systems and resources.

Experience you'll bring:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Security, Computer Science, Information Assurance, or related field and will have completed at least your Sophomore year of school at the start of the internship.

• Strong troubleshooting skills.

• Ability to multi-task across multiple technologies and work both independently and in a team environment.

• Ability to interact with a broad cross-section of personnel to explain complex security topics to both technical and non-technical settings.

• Strong project management skills, including planning and execution.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presenting information.

• Strong quantitative, analytical and problem solving skills.

• Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills.

• Ability to work in a dynamic, collaborative environment.

The base pay range represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position. Actual pay rates will vary and will be based on various factors, such as your qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Base pay is one component of WEX's total compensation package. Most sales positions are eligible for commission under the terms of an applicable plan. Non-sales roles are typically eligible for a quarterly or annual bonus based on their role and applicable plan.
