Internship Coordinator

The Internship Coordinator is a full-time professional staff member in the Office of Career Readiness and Workforce Development within the Division of Student Success. The Office of Career Readiness and Workforce Development serves as UNE’s central hub for university-wide career initiatives, providing high-level support for employer relations, career-focused events and programming, experiential learning, and the integration of career competencies into colleges and departments.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Employer Relations, the Internship Coordinator supports the intake, facilitation, and tracking of credit-bearing internships for undergraduate students. This role works closely with students, employer supervisors, and academic program directors to strengthen and expand partnerships with local and regional businesses.

Responsibilities
  • Advise students through their internship process including self-assessment, career exploration, and applications/approvals for internships that align with their academic and career goals.
  • Develop and expand internship opportunities in collaboration with academic units and employers.
  • Assist in planning and implementing strategies to attract new internship sites.
  • Develop and analyze reports and statistics.
  • Work with other professional staff in the Division of Student Success to maintain the career and internship management system (currently Handshake), and other advising platforms.
  • Creatively promote and market the internships using available technology and conduct presentations, workshops, and events.
  • Assist with educating employers, organizational partners, and the greater community about intern recruitment strategies, the creation of appropriate internship positions in adherence to best practices.
  • Assist with event planning and coordination or on-campus recruitment events and workshops.
  • Serve on campus committees and with community organizations and participate in professional organizations and professional development opportunities.
  • Occasional local and regional travel as well as occasional evening and weekend work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field with two to three years of experience in career counseling, academic advising, human resources, business, marketing/communications, psychology, education, or a related area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides comparable knowledge and skills. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and motivate undergraduate students, with an understanding of their diverse needs.
  • Experience collaborating within a university or higher education environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Professional presence and ability to develop and maintain partnerships with employers.
  • Commitment to collaborative approaches to problem-solving.
  • Experience maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency with technology platforms including Microsoft Office Suite, student database software (e.g., Handshake), and other educational technology tools.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evening or weekend hours to best support student engagement.
