Janitor/Cleaner

Job Summary:
Iowa Floor Care is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented General Cleaner to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment throughout the Kirkwood campus. This role plays an important part in supporting students, staff, and visitors by ensuring campus facilities are well cared for and presentable.

Key Responsibilities:

• Routine Cleaning: Perform daily cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and disinfecting surfaces in classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and common areas.
• Waste Management: Empty trash and recycling receptacles and ensure proper disposal of waste materials.
• Restroom Maintenance: Clean, sanitize, and restock restrooms to ensure cleanliness and adequate supplies at all times.
• Cleaning Supplies Management: Monitor cleaning supply levels and notify a supervisor when restocking is needed.
• Safety Compliance: Follow all safety procedures and guidelines when handling cleaning chemicals and operating equipment.
• Equipment Care: Properly operate and maintain cleaning equipment according to training and safety standards.
• Special Projects: Assist with special cleaning assignments, including deep cleaning during school breaks, events, or as needed.
• Reporting Issues: Promptly report any maintenance, safety, or facility concerns to the appropriate supervisor or facilities manager.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous janitorial or cleaning experience is a plus but not required.
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high cleanliness standards.
• Physical ability to perform job duties, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.

Training:

• Orientation: New hires will participate in an orientation to become familiar with Kirkwood Community College policies, procedures, and expectations.
• Safety Training: Training will be provided on proper chemical handling, equipment operation, and emergency procedures.
• On-the-Job Training: Employees will shadow experienced staff to learn effective cleaning techniques and campus-specific protocols.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $15.00 per hour
