Junior Biodiversity Specialist – WSP Ankara

WSP Ankara office is currently seeking a Junior Biodiversity Specialist to join our Sustainability Services team on a full-time contract basis based in Ankara (Turkey). The successful candidate will join our multi-discipline and cross-international team supporting in the development of projects in different sectors.

In this role, you will primarily support the senior team members in project delivery, contributing to biodiversity-related tasks and assisting in sustainability initiatives across various sectors. This position is designed for professionals looking to build expertise in a collaborative environment, growing their skills and knowledge within a supportive team and focusing on contributing to projects.

THE ROLE:

  • You will support biodiversity-related tasks within Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA), including participation in biodiversity surveys, data collection, and contribution to baseline studies and methodologies under senior supervision.

  • You will assist in biodiversity components of Environmental and Social Due Diligence (ESDD) and post-finance monitoring activities, including supporting risk and impact assessments, compliance reviews, and reporting tasks.

  • You will attend project-related, working, and organizational meetings as required and support project managers and senior team members in the coordination of project activities.

  • You will support senior staff in coordinating subcontractors and field teams, including assistance during fieldwork and site activities.

  • You will contribute to the preparation and development of technical reports, including data compilation, drafting sections, and internal reviews under guidance.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Biology, Zoology, Botany, or a closely related discipline; recent graduates and early‑career professionals are encouraged to apply.

  • Basic understanding of biodiversity and nature conservation requirements under international lender and finance institution standards, such as IFC Performance Standards, EBRD Performance Requirements, the Equator Principles, or similar frameworks.

  • Academic exposure or initial practical experience related to sustainability standards, biodiversity assessments, habitat mapping, or ecological field surveys will be considered an advantage.

  • Introductory experience or strong interest in environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) and environmental and social due diligence (ESDD) processes in line with international financial institutions’ requirements.

  • Excellent command of English, both written and spoken.

  • Willingness to develop technical interpretation, analysis, writing, and reporting skills under supervision.

  • Good organizational and time‑management skills, with attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.

  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and with technical specialists.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

  • Willingness and availability to travel and participate in fieldwork when required.

  • Ability to support multiple project tasks simultaneously and adapt to changing project needs.

  • Positive attitude, flexibility, and willingness to work in new and sometimes challenging environments.

  • Valid Class B driving license; driving experience is an advantage.

  • Any prior consultancy, internship, or project‑based experience related to biodiversity or environmental assessment will be considered a plus.
