Job Summary:
A Kitchen Commis (Commis Chef) is an entry-level culinary position in a professional kitchen. They support senior chefs and help with basic food preparation while learning kitchen operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Food Preparation & Cooking
- Wash, peel, and cut vegetables and fruits.
- Prepare basic ingredients (sauces, salads, garnishes).
- Assist in cooking dishes under supervision.
Kitchen Operations
- Set up and stock stations with necessary supplies for both hot and cold food production.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of all kitchen areas.
- Monitor inventory and inform supervisors of any shortages.
- Properly label and store food items according to health and safety regulations.
Health & Safety Compliance
- Adhere to food safety and sanitation guidelines in accordance with local regulations.
- Clean kitchen equipment, utensils, and surfaces
- Ensure proper food handling practices including temperature control, storage, and rotation (FIFO).
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with front-of-house staff to ensure timely and accurate order fulfilment.
- Communicate effectively with the kitchen team to coordinate tasks and manage busy service times.
- Work as part of a team and maintain discipline.
Requirements:
Education & Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar hot and cold kitchen role.
- Culinary diploma or certificate preferred but not mandatory.
- Pastry or Sandwiches assembling knowledge is a must.
Skills
- Proficient in preparing a variety of hot and cold dishes.
- Strong knowledge of kitchen hygiene and safety standards.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a busy kitchen.
- Good organizational and multitasking skills.
- Basic understanding of inventory management and portion control.
Working Conditions:
