Laboratory Assistant-McGowan Institute

Performs general laboratory tasks, maintains inventory and equipment and orders supplies and parts, performs quality control testing, and assists other staff.

• Completes general laboratory chores, including scheduling, stocking, cleaning, autoclaving, glass washing, sterilization of laboratory glassware, preparing buffers, making of agars for research experiment, and operating and setting up laboratory and research equipment.
• Maintains supply inventory and equipment maintenance for courses and research projects; orders supplies and equipment/parts as necessary or directed.
• Organizes experimental tests relevant to assigned project.
• Assists others in lab as directed/needed under close supervision.
• Performs quality control testing in accordance to prescribed protocols; evaluates test results. Records all quality controls instituted to ensure test validity (calibrates and maintains laboratory equipment). Adheres to departmental safety standards in responsibly handling, processing, and testing biological materials.

Mostly sedentary. May require lifting up to 25 lbs.
