THE FAMILY | The family is a warm, stable household with two children: a teenage son and a new baby, as well as a family dog. After a long infertility journey and the gift of surrogacy, the arrival of their baby has been especially meaningful and deeply cherished.
The parents are highly involved and view a newborn care specialist as an integral part of their support team during this season, rather than simply a service provider. They are committed to a home environment rooted in kindness, respect, open communication, and teamwork.
They value professionals who are confident and experienced, but also collaborative, willing to share expertise while remaining respectful of the family’s parenting preferences and values.
Above all, they are seeking a relationship built on mutual trust and respect, where everyone feels supported and aligned in helping their baby thrive.
The family is seeking overnight support focused on sleep guidance and feeding assistance, with the primary goal of helping their baby establish healthy, consistent sleep through the night in a safe and developmentally appropriate manner.
The role will begin as overnight support, with the ideal long-term transition into daytime care once the baby is consistently sleeping through the night. This milestone is anticipated around 5–6 months of age.
The family is open to a phased schedule during this transition, such as three overnight shifts and one daytime shift per week, with the potential to move into two daytime shifts weekly once overnight care is no longer required.
THE PREFERRED APPROACH | The family follows a responsive settling approach, prioritizing a supportive and nurturing environment that allows their baby to learn to self-soothe in a calm and secure way. They prefer soothing methods that do not rely on bouncing or prolonged rocking routines.
Current sleep supports include swaddling, use of a Snoo with white noise, and a pacifier. At approximately 5–6 months, they plan to transition their baby from the Snoo into a standard crib.
The family maintains a consistent bedtime and morning routine as much as is developmentally appropriate for a 2-month-old infant, while also recognizing that occasional disruptions may occur due to vaccinations or illness. Flexibility and gentle consistency are both valued.
HEALTH & SAFETY REQUIREMENTS | Given the baby’s age, health and safety are a top priority for the family. They require that the newborn care specialist is up to date on recommended vaccinations for infant-facing caregivers, including Tdap (whooping cough) and annual flu vaccination. (Vaccines are required.)
The ideal candidate will also maintain current infant CPR and first aid certification, follow safe sleep guidelines, and practice excellent hygiene, including regular handwashing and staying home when unwell.
The family understands that individual circumstances may vary and is open to discussing specific health considerations on a case-by-case basis. Above all, they are seeking someone who is committed to evidence-based, safe, and responsible newborn care practices.
