Landscape Designer

Role Overview

The Landscape Designer at Villa Landscapes by Urban Landworks is responsible for creating thoughtful, functional, and beautiful outdoor space designs that align with client goals, site constraints, brand standards, and construction feasibility. This role blends creative design skills with practical landscape construction knowledge, translating concepts into detailed plans that can be built efficiently and with high quality.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Visualization

  • Meet with clients to understand project objectives, preferences, budget, and site challenges.

  • Conduct site assessments, measure existing conditions, and document critical features.

  • Create conceptual designs, sketches, 2D plans, and detailed construction drawings.

  • Produce 3D renderings, material palettes, plant palettes, and design presentations that clearly communicate design intent.

  • Incorporate sustainable, functional, and context-appropriate design principles.

Technical & Production

  • Create CAD/Vectorworks drawings with accurate site layout, grading, patios, walls, irrigation, planting plans, and lighting plans.

  • Prepare material callouts, plant lists with sizes and quantities, and construction details.

  • Work with estimating/production to confirm constructability and pricing.

  • Coordinate with subcontractors and vendors for quantities and details as needed.

Client Communication

  • Present design proposals and revisions to clients professionally.

  • Explain design choices, product selections, and cost implications.

  • Respond to client inquiries in a timely manner and adjust designs as requested.

  • Communicate project expectations to internal teams and production staff.

Collaboration & Coordination

  • Work closely with Project Managers, Production Leads, and Sales to refine designs that are buildable within budget.

  • Assist with design input during construction phase to address onsite field conditions.

  • Participate in weekly design meetings and project reviews.

Brand & Quality

  • Uphold Villa Landscapes by Urban Landworks standards of excellence, creativity, and attention to detail.

  • Stay up to date with industry trends, new products, and best practices.

  • Contribute to internal design standards, templates, and processes.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Proficiency in design tools: Vectorworks, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Photoshop, or similar software.

  • Strong graphic communication abilities and eye for composition.

  • Understanding of grading, drainage, hardscape materials, planting design, and landscape detailing.

  • Excellent client presentation and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to balance creativity with technical accuracy and construction feasibility.

  • Organized, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred

  • Degree in Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, or related design field.

  • Experience with residential design-build landscape projects.

  • Knowledge of local plant hardiness zones, soil types, and regional design trends.

Performance Expectations

  • Deliver complete, accurate design plans by assigned deadlines.

  • Demonstrate responsiveness to client needs and revisions.

  • Collaborate seamlessly with production and operations teams.

  • Create designs that are beautiful, functional, and buildable within budget.
