Role Summary
The Director of Learning & Development is responsible for leading the organization’s enterprise learning strategy with a strong focus on
medical, clinical, and healthcare workforce development
. This role ensures that learning initiatives support patient safety, regulatory compliance, clinical excellence, leadership capability, and business performance.
Key Responsibilities
Learning Strategy & Healthcare Alignment

Develop and execute an L&D strategy aligned with organizational, clinical, and regulatory priorities

Serve as a strategic partner to executive, medical, and clinical leadership on workforce capability, skill gaps, and future healthcare needs

Align learning programs with accreditation, compliance, and regulatory requirements.

Ensure learning supports patient outcomes, quality of care, and safety standards .
Clinical, Medical & Leadership Development

Design and oversee learning programs for clinical, medical, and non-clinical staff
-
Partner with Medical Affairs, Nursing Leadership, and Clinical Operations on competency-based training

Lead leadership development programs for physician leaders, clinical managers, and healthcare executives

Support succession planning and development for critical clinical and leadership roles
Learning Design & Delivery

Oversee development of blended learning solutions (in-person, virtual, simulation-based, and digital)

Ensure learning content reflects adult learning principles and evidence-based practices

Leverage learning technologies (LMS/LXP) to support clinical education, certifications, and ongoing competency tracking

Promote continuous learning in fast-paced, high-acuity environments
Business & Clinical Partnership

Collaborate with HR, Compliance, Quality, Risk, and Clinical teams to ensure learning effectiveness and compliance

Translate clinical and operational needs into scalable learning solutions

Manage relationships with external medical educators, vendors, and accreditation bodies
Measurement, Compliance & Impact

Define and track KPIs related to learning effectiveness, competency attainment, and compliance

Ensure audit-ready documentation for required training and certifications

Measure learning impact on performance, quality metrics, and patient outcomes
People & Budget Management

Lead, coach, and develop a multidisciplinary L&D team

Manage the L&D budget with a focus on cost-effective, compliant learning solutions

Prioritize initiatives based on organizational risk, clinical impact, and strategic value
Required Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Education, Healthcare Administration, or related field
-
(Master’s degree preferred)

10+ years of experience in Learning & Development, Talent Development, or Organizational Development
-
Significant experience in a medical, healthcare, pharmaceutical, or life sciences environment
-
5+ years of leadership or people management experience
-
Strong understanding of clinical education, healthcare regulations, and compliance-driven learning
-
Experience working with medical professionals, clinicians, or regulated healthcare roles
-
Proven ability to align learning with business, clinical, and quality outcomes
Preferred Qualifications

Experience in hospitals, healthcare systems, pharma, medtech, biotech, or clinical research
-
Familiarity with regulatory frameworks (e.g., Joint Commission, FDA, GxP, CME/CE requirements)
-
Experience with clinical simulation, competency frameworks, or credentialing systems
-
Certification in learning, talent development, or healthcare education (e.g., CPTD, CPHQ, CHHR)
