    Qualifications
    • Master’s Degree from accredited college or university
    • Holds or is eligible for a New Jersey Certificate with the appropriate endorsement

    Reports to:
    Supervisor of Special Services

    Job Goal:
    To enable students to derive the fullest possible educational experience from school by promoting their sense of self through the assessment and analysis of learning characteristics, and designing the proper educational programs to supplement this goal.


    Performance Responsibilities:
    • Perform all necessary duties as required by the administrative code, state, federal laws and Board policy as a member of the Child Study Team. Assists in the evaluation of pupils referred to the Child Study Team and participates in the classification and placement of eligible students.

    2. Serves as a consultant to teachers, as assigned.

    3. Assists in the reevaluation of classified pupils according to legal guidelines.

    4. Assist in planning the Individual Educational Plan (IEP) for students in need of special services.

    5. Observes classified pupils placed out of District, as required.

    6. Prescribes the appropriate learning methods and materials for classified pupils.

    7. Follows up diagnosis and prescription in assisting classroom teacher.

    8. Interprets the program in special education to lay and professional groups, as directed.

    9. Serves as a liaison between the public schools and related agencies serving the handicapped, as directed.

    10. Counsels parents of pupils with learning and/or behavioral problems, as directed.

    11. Develops workshops and in-service programs for professional staff, as directed.

    12. Attends workshops and conferences.


    13. Assists teachers in guiding the learning process toward the achievement of educational goals, educational objectives, and instructional programs.

    14. Prepares reports, as required.

    15. Prepares and submits a weekly schedule to the Supervisor.

    16. Performs other duties as assigned.
