  • Managing the assigned tendering workload, with extensive focus on Loose Product Business & Standard offerings for service .

Job Description

Purpose of the Job :

To manage the Grid Automation tendering activities for UK, Ireland and Nordics region. The activity includes Commercial & Technical Bid Solution preparation, solution pro, planning, financial control, general reporting (internal and external) on all aspects of Bid Management.

Primary role is to manage timely delivery of high quality, accurate, competitive value adding propositions to clients and to drive the resources necessary to win the bid. Ensuring the delivery of all Bid Solutions is compliant with customer requirements and expectations, developed in a cost effective and efficient manner. In order to do this effectively, close customer contact at all stages is critical in order to establish and define both the clients technical and commercial needs and then to progress and follow the offers through to conclusion in conjunction with other members of the GE Grid Automation Commercial/Operations teams and Regional Teams.

All propositions to clients need to be strictly aligned with Grid Solutions, Region and PL strategies and processes, in particular the risk assessment and tender validation instructions and to use the relevant live up to date tendering tools in force at any time.

Co-ordinating with all external and internal customers is key Interfacing with the operations, Applications , Sales teams of Grid Automation and also the other Grid Solutions businesses. Working closely with Sourcing team in order to optimise the cost of the 3rd party material and services.

Key responsibilities

  • To manage and control the SAS Tendering activities in order to maximise profitability whilst providing high end technology driven solutions to the marketplace.
  • Actively contribute to the growth of Grid Subsation Automation Business and profitability by following through all opportunities to conclusion.
  • Technical Analysis of customer needs/RFQ to define and offer on products & standard offerings (based on GE Make products).
  • Ensure the respect of technical and commercial offers time schedule to serve sales force in due time and due quality level.
  • Facilitate Sales & Growth Leaders in key focus, promoting the GE Loose Products portfolio & Standard Offerings within the region.
  • Ensure adherence of the tendering team to tendering procedures and tools, in particular all relevant tender approvals and gates should be obtained and recorded in a timely manner.
  • Meeting customer’s priorities in terms of time schedule, price, scope and from commercial and technical aspects. Participate in customer meetings along with sales team and ensure clarifications/answers/ presentations are available and reviewed ahead of customer requests,
  • Co-ordinating with all external and internal customers is key, Interfacing with the operations, Applications , Sales teams of Grid Automation and also the team from other GEV Grid Solutions businesses.
  • Support order booking as per signed contract/PO, ensure booking process well in place & drive an improved OTR turnover process.
  • Follow the Standard tools and practice and provided feedback and suggestions whereas necessary for standardisation and improvement of the Tools.
  • Conduct Transfer Meeting + Hand over relevant documents to operations team as per process guideline in timely manner whereas applicable.

Technical Proposals Management

  • Review RFQ documents to establish a bid strategy in association with sales team to deliver the tender in an efficient manner, maximize customers satisfaction and increase probability of success.
  • In order to maximise profitability whilst providing high end technology driven solutions to the marketplace and development of technical complaint offer in line with technical specifications in accordance with tender requirement in timely manner with help of Technical team .
  • Timely review and response to technical enquiries /clarifications of bid and Identify & flag key risks and capture them Risk & Opportunity register with mitigation strategy in discussion with stakeholders.
  • Ensure technical derogation and New Product Introduction (NPI) approvals are raised, if applicable for technical solution. Take lead to tackle for any product gaps and optimisation required with managing with application and operation team to mitigate any technical risks .

Commercial Proposal Management

  • Build up the cost estimate, ensure all costs are properly validated and adequate risks provisions are considered for projects. Establish a realistic target cost at early stage of the tender with Sales specialist and challenge any costs which does not compare with target cost to avoid any over or under estimation.
  • Establish the tender sourcing strategy in collaboration with technical team and sourcing team, organize preparation of enquiry documentation whereas required for external Suppliers.
  • Follow complete bid management phases to ensure compliance to GE policy and financial guidelines of Grid Solutions/Grid Automation Business .
  • Develop all customer solutions in line with SAS Commercial Strategy. (GM, Risk Analysis) and Lead the tender review whereas required .
  • Support the Sales team in commercial and technical meetings/negotiations with customers whereas required.
  • Cost optimization & Risk Analysis: Challenge product/solution costs and delivery costs in tenders whereas required, perform the risk analysis and ensure mitigation strategies in place. Support sales team to raise commercial RAMS whereas required.

EHS & Quality

  • Ensuring that the Company's quality, environment health & safety policies are communicated, understood and implemented within areas under your control.
  • Co-operate and work in conjunction with the relevant personnel to ensure best practice are followed for environment health & safety issues.
  • Raise any concern/ incidents using standard tools and practice and support implementing actions to prevent a recurrence wherever possible.
  • Participate in win/loss analysis for all the large and complex tenders whereas applicable and provide feedback whereas required.
  • Ensure the respect of technical and commercial offers time schedule to serve salesforce in due time and due quality level. Ensure the information is updated in respective tools to ensure the quality of data used for KPIs.

Required Qualifications and minimum experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical/ Electronic engineering .
  • Overall minimum 5 years of experience in electrical Industry including minimum 2-3 years of experience in Sales or tendering activities.
  • Adequate Technical knowledge and experience of Electrical Subsation environment, Substation Automation products & system.
  • Previous experience with GE will be advantageous.
  • Any Diploma or course related to Electrical subsation or Automation system is a plus.

Desired Characteristics

  • Good appreciation and understanding of the requirements of the Electrical Power Systems Industry in relation to Automation solutions (protection, control, measurement, site practices etc.) and knowledge of the substation environment, CDM regulations, Site Surveys, Health & Safety, Quality, Site Working, Risk Assessments, Method Statements .
  • Ability to interpret customer documentation including tender/contracts, drawings, procedures and policy.
  • Ability to communicate with Internal customer and external customer effectively and write reports and correspondence whereas required.
  • Adequate Knowledge and understanding of commercial terms and tendering process with proactive work style, creativity, energy. Ability to multi-task and work under pressure in a distributed matrix sales structure.
  • Customer oriented, Taking initiative with high energy level is key to success in this position and adaptive based on situation, expected to determine own methods of how to achieve specific objectives, working within procedural and policy guidelines.
  • Teamwork oriented and demonstrate high level of initiative, problem solving, information seeking and eager to learn qualities .
  • Having working knowledge/understanding of GA business/product lines and business model will be plus.
  • Adequate understanding of Commercial & Contractual Terms & Conditions i.e., FIDIC, NEC3 and similar will be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of customer requirements and Specifications for UK, N, Ireland and Nordics countries will be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of the GE Grid Automation tendering processes & tools will be advantageous.
  • Advanced IT skills (email, presentation preparation, word processing, spreadsheets, project reporting).

Job Location/Mobility Requirements

  • The base Job location is mainly office based at pallavaram, Chennai, India with potential travel within UK, Ireland & Nordics countries when required .
  • Remote Working option is available if needed.
