Lead ESF Engineer

The Lead ESF Engineer is responsible for leading the engineering, installation, testing, and commissioning of GIS systems for high-voltage substation projects. The role ensures compliance with applicable standards, project specifications, and safety requirements through the review of engineering deliverables, technical documentation, and construction activities. The position also coordinates with OEMs, EPC contractors, vendors, and utility representatives to resolve technical issues and support the successful delivery of reliable and compliant GIS installations.



Engineering & Design

  • Review and approve GIS engineering designs, drawings, calculations, and technical documents
  • Evaluate and ensure compliance of GIS systems with IEC, IEEE, ANSI, and utility standards
  • Review single-line diagrams, protection schemes, interlocking philosophies, and substation layouts
  • Coordinate with OEMs, EPC contractors, consultants, and utility representatives on technical matters
  • Review equipment specifications, datasheets, and procurement packages for GIS equipment
  • Conduct technical evaluations of vendor proposals and participate in bid clarification meetings


Construction & Installation

  • Monitor and supervise GIS installation activities to ensure compliance with approved procedures and quality standards
  • Review and approve method statements, inspection test plans (ITPs), and construction procedures
  • Ensure proper assembly, alignment, gas filling, and testing of GIS equipment
  • Support construction teams in resolving technical issues and field engineering challenges
  • Verify compliance with safety regulations and project HSSE requirement


Testing & Commissioning

  • Lead and oversee GIS pre-commissioning and commissioning activities
  • Review commissioning procedures, test reports, and punch lists


Witness and verify

  • GIS High Voltage Tests
  • Partial Discharge Tests
  • SF6 Gas Quality Tests
  • Functional & Interlocking Tests
  • Protection Relay Testing
  • SCADA Integration Testing
  • Energization Activities
  • Coordinate with transmission operators and utility representatives during energization


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • 7+ years experience in construction, or energy projects
