The Lead Learning Solutions Designer is responsible for leading complex instructional design projects and mentoring team members while delivering creative, high-impact, performance-driven learning solutions. This role serves as both a project lead and subject matter expert (SME), managing pod-based collaborators including instructional designers, technical writers, editors, facilitators, and business stakeholders through the full instructional design lifecycle. Leverages advanced techniques including video production, 2D/3D animation, Pixar-style storytelling, storyboarding, gamification, and immersive media to enhance the design and delivery of branded learning experiences to align with company priorities. Ensures content is polished, visually compelling, and impactful to achieve excellent learner engagement, retention, and adoption. Collaborates with leaders and cross-functional peers to align efforts, reduce duplication, and streamline workflows. Balances hands-on instructional design, creativity, and project leadership to deliver scalable, performance-focused solutions to reinforce company culture and elevate organizational capability.
Responsibilities:
- Designs and develops instructional content across multiple modalities (e.g., eLearning, ILT, microlearning, blended, simulations). Translates complex processes into engaging, measurable learning solutions. Incorporates branded elements, video, 2D/3D animation, storytelling, and gamification to maximize learner engagement. Ensures content is polished, aligned with company standards, and performance driven.
- Leads assigned pods through the full instructional design lifecycle, coordinating cross-functional contributors to ensure deliverables are accurate, timely, and aligned with company standards. Applies governance and advanced design standards to maintain consistency, accuracy, and brand alignment across pods.
- Provides project updates to department leadership, manages timelines and milestones, and ensures deliverables meet quality and company standards. Identify backup coverage for critical tasks and escalate or source external resources as needed to support project completion.
- Partner with internal teams (e.g., Marketing, Communications, HR, Operations, Development, and Corporate) to align resources, messaging, and stakeholder expectations. Collaborate with delivery and LMS teams to integrate solutions into broader training programs and platforms. Serves as a liaison to ensure consistency across functions and minimize duplication of effort. Analyze learner data to provide insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Provides coaching, feedback, and informal guidance to team members within assigned pods. Reviews content for accuracy, instructional effectiveness, and alignment with established standards. Supports management in embedding governance practices, templates, and quality measures across the team.
- Researches emerging practices in instructional design, learning science, and creative media. Applies innovative approaches such as AR/VR, interactive simulations, and advanced video to enhance learner engagement and scalability. Recommends process improvements, tools, and methodologies to strengthen team efficiency and quality.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Adult Learning, Organizational Development, or a related field required; or a minimum of five (5) years of recent, hands-on instructional design lifecycle experience in a corporate setting.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience managing instructional design projects or leading pod-based teams through the full design lifecycle.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience facilitating in-person and virtual learning programs, including leadership development and role-based learning.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in rapid content/eLearning development using authoring tools such as Articulate 360, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or Microsoft Office Suite.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience creating and editing videos with screen capture and editing tools (e.g., Camtasia, Adobe Premiere), including 2D/3D media, storyboarding, motion graphics, and use of AI tools to enhance learning content.
- Experience designing instructor-led program and supporting materials (facilitator scripts, participant guides, facilitator guides, written resource tools, etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse audiences, from front-line contributors to senior executives.
- Applied knowledge of adult learning theory, instructional design models, and learning science principles.
- Professional certifications (e.g., ATD, CPTD, Kirkpatrick, CPTM) preferred but not required.
- Advanced knowledge of instructional design models (ADDIE, SAM, Agile) and adult learning principles, with proven application across multiple modalities (ILT, eLearning, microlearning, blended, simulations).
- Advanced instructional design skills with proven application across multiple modalities (ILT, eLearning, microlearning, blended, simulations).
- Strong creative skills in visual and media design, including video editing, animation, and storytelling.
- Expert proficiency in authoring, visual, and media design tools with advanced knowledge of LMS publishing requirements, including SCORM/xAPI.
- Proficiency in eLearning authoring tools (Articulate 360, Rise, Captivate), video editing platforms (Camtasia, Adobe Premiere, After Effects), and visual design platforms (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
- Skilled in gamification and interactive learning design to drive learner motivation and retention.
- Ability to evaluate learning effectiveness using data, feedback, and business metrics.
- Familiarity of accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) and ability to design inclusive content a plus.
- Strong project management skills, including workflow oversight, scheduling, and milestone tracking.
- Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills; able to simplify complex concepts into engaging learning.
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to influence outcomes and align diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to mentor and coach junior team members to elevate capability and quality.
- Innovative mindset with adaptability to emerging tools, methods, and creative strategies.
- Ability to occasionally facilitate knowledge transfer or train-the-trainer sessions.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) verbal and written preferred.
Compensation
The anticipated pay range/scale for this position is $80,155.00 to $100,182.00 Annually. Actual starting base pay within this range will depend on factors including geographic location, education, training, skills, and relevant experience.
Additional Compensation
This position is eligible to receive a discretionary annual bonus.
