The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring mechanical systems and components—ranging from turbines (rotating equipment) and boilers to HVAC and balance of plant (Bop)—are designed, procured, installed, and commissioned according to technical specifications, industry standards, and project goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Design & Technical Oversight:
-
Lead mechanical design activities for power plants, including equipment selection, layout, system integration, and thermal performance.
-
Review and approve mechanical drawings, specifications, and datasheets submitted by EPC contractors, OEMs, and consultants.
-
Evaluate vendor proposals and conduct technical bid evaluations for major mechanical equipment (e.g., gas/steam turbines, boilers, engines, heat exchangers, pumps, piping systems).
Project Execution:
-
Supervise installation and commissioning of mechanical systems, ensuring compliance with design, quality, and safety standards.
-
Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure optimal mechanical integration with electrical and civil works.
-
Lead site inspections, factory acceptance tests (FAT), and performance tests of mechanical systems and equipment.
Engineering Management & Quality Assurance:
-
Establish internal standards and specifications for mechanical engineering deliverables and ensure compliance with relevant codes (ASME, API, ISO, etc.).
-
Work closely with the procurement and project management teams to manage technical risks, delays, and change orders.
-
Support lifecycle assessments, reliability engineering, and long-term maintenance planning.
Team Leadership & Collaboration:
-
Provide mentorship and technical leadership to mechanical engineers within the department.
-
Act as the owner’s representative in meetings with EPC contractors, OEMs, and third-party engineers.
-
Participate in HAZOP, design reviews, and risk assessments throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications and Experience:
-
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (Master’s or MBA is a plus)
-
Minimum 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with 5+ years in the power generation sector (thermal, solar CSP, biomass, gas, or hybrid systems)
-
Strong understanding of rotating equipment, thermal systems, fluid mechanics, and piping design
-
Experience with software tools such as AutoCAD Plant 3D, SolidWorks, HTRI, Aspen HYSYS, or equivalent
-
Familiarity with international and local mechanical design standards (ASME, API, ISO, DIN)
-
Demonstrated success in supporting EPC execution or owner’s engineering roles
-
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project coordination skills
Preferred:
-
Experience in combined-cycle, cogeneration, or hybrid renewable plants
-
Knowledge of maintenance planning and asset lifecycle management
-
Professional Engineering License (PE) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) preferred
-
Experience in projects across developing markets or remote locations
