Position Overview
Avaada Energy is seeking a dynamic and visionary Head of Business Development to spearhead growth across Commercial & Industrial (C&I), Utility-scale, and Trading businesses, while strengthening government relations and policy advocacy. The ideal candidate will be a senior leader with a proven track record in building large-scale renewable projects, driving C&I partnerships, and managing stakeholder relations at state and central government levels.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Business Growth
- Develop and execute long-term business development strategy for C&I, Utility, and Power Trading segments in alignment with Avaada’s growth vision.
- Identify new markets, customers, and opportunities in solar, wind, hybrid, and emerging energy solutions (e.g., green hydrogen, green ammonia, storage, and trading).
- Lead origination of large-scale utility projects and C&I PPA partnerships.
- Establish and strengthen Avaada’s footprint in short-term and long-term trading markets.
Government Relations & Policy Advocacy
- Build and sustain strong relationships with Central Ministries (MNRE, Power, Finance, Environment), Regulatory Authorities (CERC, SERCs), DISCOMs, and State Nodal Agencies.
- Act as Avaada’s representative in policy dialogues, industry associations, and trade bodies.
- Track, influence, and advocate for favorable renewable energy policies, bidding frameworks, and regulatory developments.
- Ensure compliance with evolving energy sector regulations and proactively manage risks from policy changes.
Commercial & Industrial (C&I) Business Development
- Drive C&I business expansion by engaging with large corporates, industrial parks, and institutional customers.
- Structure innovative commercial offerings including group captive, open access, rooftop, and hybrid models.
- Build strategic partnerships with clients, EPC players, and technology providers to deliver value-driven solutions.
Utility & Trading Business
- Lead bid management for utility-scale solar, wind, hybrid, and storage tenders.
- Negotiate PPAs, TSAs, and trading arrangements with DISCOMs, bulk consumers, and open access clients.
- Drive portfolio optimization through active participation in power exchanges and bilateral trading platforms.
- Explore opportunities in cross-border energy trade and REC/Carbon credit markets.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead and mentor a high-performing Business Development team.
- Work cross-functionally with Finance, Legal, Regulatory, Engineering, and Project Development teams.
- Drive a culture of innovation, agility, and market responsiveness.
Qualifications & Experience
- MBA/PGDM in Business Management, Energy Management, or equivalent. Technical degree (B.Tech/B.E) in Engineering preferred.
- 20–25 years of experience in business development within the renewable energy/power sector, with proven success in C&I and Utility segments.
- Strong network and proven working relationships with government stakeholders, DISCOMs, regulators, and corporate clients.
- Deep knowledge of electricity laws, renewable bidding processes, power trading mechanisms, open access frameworks, and PPA negotiations.
- Exposure to emerging energy solutions (Green Hydrogen, Battery Storage, Carbon Credits) is desirable.
